We had to put out pet dog down today due to old age and have pancreatic. She was a 8 year St. Bernard/German Shepard Mix. (8 is old for that breed of dog). It was tough but the right thing to do given her condition, and she didn't have it long.
Anybody got any funny stories about their own pets (past or present) to help me cheer up?

I don't know if it will cheer you up but it's about the Beach Boys Carl Wilson's dog who died.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was in the same boat about a month ago with my beagle. He was 13.
Reminded me of Marley, in the sense that he was always getting into stuff. One time he knocked over the big tupperware container that we keep his food in while we were out of the house. We came home to find that nearly everything in the container had been eaten. I mean, we were only gone an hour, and he had a month's worth of food in there. How is that even possible?!
But yeah, that Buddy wouldn't stop eating unless you physically stopped him. I miss the old boy.
My condolences.

I had a Chihuahua for 14 years that had the biggest pair I've ever seen on a Dog his size.
they would rattle when he walked.

When I was young we had a dog, called Bess who was a black Retriever/Spaniel cross (body of a Retriever, brain of a Spaniel pretty much).
When we defrosted the freezer, she would eat the large chunks of ice that came out very quickly, before slinking off to her basket with what was obviously the doggy form of brainfreeze, as she sat with her paws on her head and snout for about 5 minutes in a little bit of discomfort. She would then return and eat some more.
She also once found a root sticking out of the ground in the garden, and took great offence at this root. She spent about 2 hours growling at it and playing tug o'war with it, trying to pull it out. She got about 4 foot of it out of the ground before we realised it was a root from an expensive plant in our neighbours manicured, landscaped garden.
Another dog we had, Brandy, was a golden Labrador. One week we took him for a run out on a common, and he lost his prized rubber ball. The next week we took him back and he found it again. We're pretty sure he intended it.
He suffered with arthritis in his back legs, pretty common for Labs when they get older, and as such was allowed in the kitchen as he couldn't get on his back legs to the worktop. Or so we thought. One day we returned home to find a pound of butter gone. EATEN. And one dog feeling very sorry for himself with a dicky tummy and his kitchen privelages removed!
Sorry to hear about your pooch bro, losing a pet sucks and hurts an awful lot. You can be proud you gave her a good home and be safe in the knowledge she isn't suffering.

Our dog is getting old too. Its a newfoundland and they are only supposed to last 8 or 9 years. He'll be 13 in August. He I guess has arthritis too as he limps when walking. He used to be on dog steroids to fight it. But we pretty much take him out only to use the bathroom to limit his movement. He's prone to lay down stretch up make eye contact as if to say give me a massage now. Which I usually do.

I actully had to take my dog to the Vet ER last night, she was fine all day, then she came in from outside and she look like she was about to pass out. We rushed to the 24/7 Vet, and the next thing we know, the docter is showing us x-rays of a mass by her stomuch, which could be cancer, we spent 5,000 dollars having it removed, theres a good chance it might not be cancer, since it looks the mass was caused from something ripping threw the small intestine, but we won't know for sure untill the test results come back in a week. We pick her up tommorrow. She's only six years old, I don't care what the cost, we weren't giving up on her just yet.

I'm sorry to hear it. A dog I had a long ways ago would do this thing with her paws when you'd go to give her a treat. Think of the kneading a cat does with their claws.

I had to go through that with my kitty Small Cat last month. It's terrible to have to sign papers to end a being's life. I feel for what you're going through. It's like these pets of ours become family members. Take care man, it'll get better.

I had a friend/neighbor that was a huge Cubs Fan, and had a Shih Tzu that ate everything it could.
Well, one day, it must have eaten one of his Cubs socks....
I was there watching the Cubs/Cards War like we always did when they played, and the Cubs were doing their usual choke job with the bullpen. IN walked his dog with the Cubs Sock hanging 3/4's out of his ass.
First thing I said was "Dog's right dude, the Cubs are crappy."
One of the most funny and strange moments of my life. I'm never that quick with wit.
