Can anybody here fill me in about the original plan/ending for the Stone Cold vs HHH Summerslam match?
From what I know Mankind was added to protect Stone Cold and Stone Cold felt HHH wasn't even on his level or drawing enough heat.
I do remember reading somewhere that Shawn Michaels mentioned this on Byte This according to a poster.

I can't really help that much, but I did indeed hear Foley was added so Austin wouldn't Job to Triple-H at Summerslam. I have no idea if that helped or not, but I hope so.

Another rumor is Jesse Ventura thought it would look bad if he awarded a heel a title. So they chose to go the route of putting Mankind over and having Triple H attack Austin post match.
The only reason the whole Austin didn't wanna put Hunter over thing doesn't make sense to me is just two months later, he put Triple H over at No Mercy.

But Austin was having neck surgery afterwards (when Rikishi would do it 'for da Rock'), so it might have been the case that he'd only do the job for him if he wasn't physically able to continue wrestling, but who knows. I'm not sure Austin was on the best terms with Triple H during that time in any case.

If Austin didnt want to drop the title to Triple H then they could have just had The Rock beat him for it.

In a Michaels shoot he was asked about his comments about Stone Cold not putting over HHH and he said he mainly did it to stir up the smarks online but pretty soon he was hearing from the boys that Austin was actually pissed about it. When Shawn was backstage at a taping, he asked Austin if they were cool and Austin seemed confused why there'd be any heat between them. Shawn said because of Byte This and Stone Cold's reply was "huh, what'd you say?" Shawn told him and Austin kinda shook his head and said he didn't care. Even HBK has been gotten by da Newz!
