How would you rate it in regards to their discography? Like, is it the best album they've released in over 10 years?

Hey! I thought Warning was one of their best albums (Though Nimrod will always be there best to me) no way dude. fair play to them for going another direction with warning but there was only like 2 good tunes on it, minority and waiting, the rest was pretty weird. i'm a sucker for nimrod myself, but you just cant beat dookie. its one of those albums that reminds me of growing up... quality.

I will be picking this puppy up when it comes out. I picked up American Idiot a few weeks ago and listened to the whole album for the first time. I can't wait for this next one.

But of course, I'm that weird kid who liked American Idiot the best, as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm really fond of their older stuff. I grew up on Dookie and it's a magnificent record. I just happen to be fond of their newer stuff more.

Just listened to it. Its a very strong album indeed. Doesn't top "Insomniac" for me (one of my top 10 favourite albums), but on first listen its a little better than "American Idiot" (which I also liked).

I don't know man. Warning is a great album to me, and I always put it on whenever I'm in an acousticy mood I wasn't old enough to really even know Green Day when Dookie came out (I was 3 at the time), but I remember Nimrod very fondly. Hitchin A Ride, Time Of Your Life, and Redundant are some of the first songs I remember hearing, and that one always reminds me of growing up So to me: Nimrod > Dookie > Warning > American Idiot > Insomniac Hopefully, 21st Century Breakdown will be better than Warning or Dookie to me

I've actually decided to BUY this one. So I can't wait til it comes out. Rolling Stone gave it 4 1/2 stars.

Oh yeah, if you preorder it now, you get 4 bonus cover songs they did during recording sessions
I think they are "A Quick One While He's Away" by The Who, "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, "Another State Of Mind" by Social Distortion, and "That's Alright Mama" by Elvis

I have been a fan of Green Day since the mid 90s. They are my favorite band(with Weezer a close second). I had originally not planned on downloading this when I heard it had leaked. I was just going to wait and buy it when it came out. However, curiosity got the better of me so I decided to go ahead and download it. I have to say I'm very disappointed. I had such high hopes for this album and while there are a few good songs on it,I'm just overall let down. And I'm not one of those fans who just thinks everything should sound like Dookie. American Idiot is actually my second favorite album of theirs behind Insomniac. I don't know. I've listened to it twice now hoping that maybe the first time I listened that I was missing something. I just can't get into it. I'm not saying it's horrible. "Restless Heart Syndrome","21 Guns",and "Before The Lobotomy" are all great songs. Maybe my hopes were set too high or something. However, this is honestly the first album of theirs that I have been let down by. Maybe it will grow on me. I'm going to give it a few more listens.

I'll give it a listen.
Unlike most people here, i hope it does not suck like American Idiot.

Gotta check it out.
I didn't actually like Nimrod or Warning. Insomniac is underrated. Kerplunk and 39 Smooth are awesome pre-Dookie albums that are full of simple songs about girls mainly. Dookie is awesome in its' own right. Liked American Idiot but couldn't (and still can't) buy into the rock opera concept that my brother claims it is.

There are characters and a narrative and all those things that make a concept album/rock opera.

Well, they are playing 'Know Your Enemy' 8 billion times a day just like they did 'American Idiot', so I can be good and sick of that song once the album comes out.

It's pretty snorkin' awesome. Reminds me at moments of the Hold Steady, in how it combines a Punk attitude and very overt Classic Rock influences, all wrapped up in a big, literary, anthemic package. The first three tracks are awesome. Dookie was fantastic, but there was certainly filler songs on it. The songwriting on Wraning, American Idiot and this record are on a whole new level. It's not better than AI, but the more I listen to it the closer it gets in my opinion. Can't wait to see them live this summer.

So I bought it today, and so far it is a really good album. My only gripe is that some songs are just kinda filler (Mainly the Viva La Gloria songs). But overall, a great album and an excellent followup to American Idiot Best songs: "21st Century Breakdown", "Before The Lobotomy", "Christian's Inferno", "East Jesus Nowhere"

Not better than American Idiot.
I liked Gloria until it turned into "Mariabomb" (hardcore fans will understand what I'm talking about)
The Static Age was basically Church on Sunday all over again.
Another one sounded exactly like Deadbeat Holiday in the beginning but I can't remember which one.
Maybe I'll like it better after a few more listens but nothing really stood out that much to me. Keep in mind I've bought Green Day's new album on the day it's come out ever since Insomniac. So i'm hardly a fairweather or casual fan. I think American Idiot is their best album.

I'm in the minority on this one. I thought American Idiot was fantastic, but this one is American Idiot Part Two: Electric Boogaloo, at least to my ears. It's underwhelming, like they took all the bombast from Idiot but forgot to write good songs around it, relying on the idea that this is a huge album instead of actually making it one. I'm probably the only one but I was disapointed. It's not horrible album, far from it, it's just not a good one.
My 2 cents.

I got it today and, wow, what a a amazing album. I lthink I like american idiot more, just because that was the cd a listined to everyday in highschool at least twice a day streight through. But, I love Vivia La Gloria and Know Your Enemy. Piece of advice...buy the two disc edition at Target. 6 live from Toyko tracks off American Idiot.
