Well considering all the love I've seen Austin/Rock's epic 2001 showdown getting, it made me wonder if it stood a chance against the match many feel made Austin, his WrestleMania 13 showdown with The Hitman. I, of course, included all his other WrestleMania matches since people just tend to have alternating tastes. Some may pick his match against Michaels due to it solidifying Austin as "the man" or maybe his final match against The Rock in 2003.
I'm undecided because I love the WM 13 and WM 17 matches almost equally, I'm probably going to have to review some footage before voting.

Austin/Rock at 17 is one of my top 5 mania matches ever. Just an all-out epic.
.....And even with that, it STILL loses out to Hart/Austin.

The 'I Quit" match with Bret Hart. If memory serves the posters on this board voted it as Austin's best match of all time. I believe the X-7 match with Rock was second, but it might have been behind the No Way Out match with Hunter.

Yeah, 2001 could have been the most exciting year ever. I guess we can blame AOL/Time Warner contracts or WWE's unwillingness to spend the big money to buy out some of these contracts or bringing in Flair, nWo, Bischoff, Goldberg, and/or Steiner earlier to be a part of the InVasion angle. Had these players been brought in and WCW allowed to be an actual worthy competitor, then we could still have the WCW name today. They wouldn't have had to bring all these people out at once either, but could spread them out throughout the early months of the InVasion.
However, this is a rambling on and not germane to a topic on Austin's best Mania match.

1. Vs Bret Hart (WM 13) 2. Vs Shawn Michaels (WM 14) 3. Vs The Rock (WM 17)
It seems hard to believe, but Austin actually had alot of really good matches

I'm curious why you said, "It seems hard to believe." He was very good in the ring. I did notice a difference after the neck injury with Owen (and as his neck continued to get worse), but he continued to put on great matches because he adapted his style slightly to include more brawling and striking.

Not to give anything away, but I'm currently working on a project that involves ranking every Wrestlemania match in history. The Rock-Austin epic ranks #4 through 18 Wrestlemanias But Hart-Austin is #1

You know, it is really sad that Shawn was so injured in his match with Austin because I believe they could have had an all time classic.
Granted Shawn Michaels still pulled out a heck of a match for the fact that his back was destroyed.

WM 13 and WM 17 matches are both on my top 10 matches of all time list. Both are simply amazing in every way, but Austin vs Bret is my #2 match of all time behind the first Hell in a Cell. I would rank Austin vs HBK as the third best Austin WM match cause of HBK's amazing performance with a broken back. Painful to watch!

Because I get the impression on this board that the only good Stone Cold was before the neck injury. And after that, he became generic brawler #214

No question 'bout VS Hart at 'Mania 13. What a fantastic match, with a fantastic story line behind it. Those were the days. *sigh*

I had to go with Austin/Michaels. I love this match, and the story behind it. And Shawn did a HELL of a job, considering his back's shape going into it. The only downfall being Mike Tyson, IMO.

I know this might be blasphemy but I always thought the match with Bret was a little overrated. Great, but overrated. I'm going with X7 against the Rock.
