So I'm thinking of getting a tattoo. I kind of sort of have an idea of what I'd like to get. I'd like to get something that wraps around my forearm. I suck at drawing though, so I wouldn't be able to really make anything that would get my idea through I don't think. Would I be able to go in some place and explain to them what I want and have them draw it up first? Or is that only something you see on TV?

Ya, most places will let you go in for a consultation, where you give them an idea of what you want, and they give you ideas on how it would work best. Then you just gotta wait till they get a chance to draw it for you which depending on how busy they are may take alittle while. Usually shouldn't be longer then a week before you can get in, depending on how intricate and large the tat you want is

And make sure what the artist gives you is what you want. Don't just get it because it's what they gave you.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I've consider this for years now and I think I'm finally ready to get some. But I wouldn't want to get something I wouldn't be happy with, so I'll def be picky about it.

Yes you can get one designed. I'm currently going through that process myself. Depending on how I feel after I get it done, I may post a pic here. Edit: I stopped in there earlier today and made some requests about a small design change. I'm so psyched.

The first tattoo I ever got was something off the wall that I had them make bigger ... it is now covered up with something that more fits my personality.

I'm wanting to get something along these lines:
Spent .556 casings falling down my arm. But instead of just being brass colored, each one will be colored like the awards I received in the Army's ribbons are colored. So like my Purple Heart will have white edges on either end, and purple in the middle. And my ARCOM will have Green with two white lines in the middle. But they'll all still have a glossy or shiny look to them like a bullet shell does. The different color of each ribbon will give me a lot of color no the whole arm, which I think would look cool.

Sounds cool. Just remember that these will be on you for life, so if you think you'll be cool with them at age 60, then by all means get it.

I've run into people who have gotten Kanji symbols tattooed on them without knowing what they mean. And most of them tell me that they don't know what it is, but it looks cool. And Highroad, that sounds like all kinds of cool.

That's the danger of using another language's symbols...unless you do your research (which I did when I got my kanji symbols for good and evil on my wrists) you're going to end up with tattoos that mean "dogf***er" and "I love john stamos"

Just remember, if you sell your soul to the Devil, and if said Devil should dress like Robin Hood for no adequetely explained reason, you will get a tattoo on your left hand. One internet to whomever gets that.
