Bill Melton was the greatest. He's a former White Sox player who was the first in franchise history to lead the AL in home runs, way back in the early '70s. (He now does White Sox post-game live on Comcast Sports Chicago.) He was at one of the many mall signings I attended but there's a backstory to this one.
My mom wanted to meet him, so I came along. A lady behind me found out that he was only giving one autograph per customer and asked if I wouldn't mind getting an autograph for her son. I figured sure, my mom wanted to meet Bill, not me. So I walked up when it was my turn and said "Hi, I'm Frank." and shook his hand. He smiled and said "Hi, Frank, good of you to come here. Glad to have you."
Since I was nice enough to do for others, my mom's turn was next and she got an autograph for me. Mom brought up the old Chevrolet commercial Bill did with then-teammates Wilbur Wood and Pat Kelly (they sang in the shower singing the Chevy song) and Bill got red from embarrassment, then laughed. "Oh my goodness," he said. "You know the worst part of shooting that commercial? We were doing it at 5 in the morning that day and it was 30 degrees outside, and here we were stripped from the waist up in a cold shower. But Pat did a great job of singing, so that was a good time."
He thanked us for coming out again. That was the first autograph signing I ever been to where the guest of honor was willing to talk. Definitely the nicest guy I've ever met.

fairly minor celebs, but everyone i've met was nice:
fred dibnah: a proper northern gent, called me a "cracking lad".
wolf from gladiators: he was in turning on the christmas lights, and took alot of time out to make sure all the kids got pictures and autographs. nice bloke.
itch from the king blues: before they got famous, he's kinda a friend of a friend, he's always been really great whenever i've talked to him. we've got alot in common so we've always got along, and he's quite a funny guy in person. i'm really glad him and the band have finally started to break through.
giant bernard: quite reserved and quiet, but still really polite. he's also HUGE in person.

I apparently met an OOC GWAR when I was working at Target. Aside from having to tell me who they were they were quite possibly the nicest group of folks I'd spoken to that day.

Nicest: Yao Ming: Extremely friendly and was willing to take the time to give everyone asking for it an autograph. Also really friggin tall.
Bob Odenkirk: I met him with his family and he still took the time to sign an autograph and seemed genuinely happy to meet a Mr. Show fan (Which I am... I own the whole DVD set.)
Red v Blue crew: Always down to earth and fun to hang out with the few times I've hung out with them.
Wil Wheaton: Any PAXer will agree his awesomeness is just so concentrated, it waves off of him like heat off of a street.
MC Chris: Took the time to talk too and sign for everyone after a concert, loved that I gave him my gold Legend of Zelda cartridge to sign.
Booker T and Shane Helms: Really friendly and Book was even giving Shane excretory matter about his titantron at the time, they stuck around and were telling me stories, such as the whole "Shane teaching Lance Storm 3 Count moves" story.
Rudiest: Jon Claude Van Damme: Acted like he was the second coming of Christ even though this was 2005... when he was well... not really famous anymore.

Amazing guy. Took the time to autograph and talk to me with a line of people forming quickly. I was lucky enough to catch him sitting alone (for some damn reason that I can't fathom) and wondering where GLC artist Pat Gleason was. We discussed a bunch of stuff, including how I felt he was the most underrated comic writer today. After I decided to let those behind get their books signed, he sent me a mission to find Gleason (which I did, and he was also pretty cool).
Can't think of anyone who was rude.

I almost forgot, I got to meet Hall of Famer Burleigh Grimes one day, and he was a great guy. Here was a guy who was in the MLB Hall of Fame, and he was just hanging around talking to everyone like he was a regular Joe. There are definitely some sports figures who can learn a thing or two from guys like that.

There are definitely some sports figures who can learn a thing or two from guys like that. Last pitcher to officially throw a spitball. I think I have his autograph (that I bought since he died the year I was born.) Others I've met: Bob Feller-Nice guy. 90 years old and still making appearances. Very underrated pitcher. Yogi Berra-Nice but very quiet. Not the talkative guy he's made out to be. Jim Palmer-Nice though I've heard he can be hit or miss. Steve Carlton-Also very nice. Messed up slightly with signing his auto and offered to sign another item instead (I declined. It was messed up that bad.) Phil Rizzuto-Another great human being. Miss you Scooter. Fergie Jenkins-Very nice. Was signing for charity and was talkative to me and the others.

Just the ones that come to mind, clinton in 92 when he was campaigning, was nice and all (I was a kid), bob dole in 96 at my dad's church, he feel asleep during the sermon which I did many times so I can't blame him, was shaking hands before and after, leon "bip" roberts gave me some wristbands from the dugout when he was on the padres,
worked on veronica mars for a while, kristen was nice enough during the taping, would wave if you did, etc, but when she did that maxim where she was in a 50s bathing suit, she was going on and on about how "mine is so classy compared to what they normally have in there", a week later she's walking around the set in a hooker outfit (her outfit for the scene was a graduation robe, so underneath was her own outfit).
Balls before an ecw show in 2000, he was in the parking lot hanging out talking with fans.

Nicest: By far the top three were Rob Van Dam, Adam West, and James Marsters.
I've never actually had the bad fortune of meeting a rude celebrity. They've all been pretty cool.

Some I forgot who were nice me and a bunch of random people (read: I do not know them) were outside the Daytona Ocean Center before BASH AT THE BEACH
Steve McMicheal and Jeff Jarrett: they gave us a free show (just promo offing each other, spurred by Mongo signing a paper plate for some kid).
James Vandenberg: when he, Chris Kayon and Bryan Clark got out of their rental, I started chanting "Vandenberg" in the same tone that one would chant "Daryl" at Daryl Strawberry. He turned, gave a cheesey smile held his hands over his head and jumped up and down in a "that's right! I'm cool!" sort of way
When "Bob Holly" got out of his rental, everyone gave the Horsemen salute (as he just inducted into the group) and he seemed gracious

Nicest: Would have to be a tie between Dana Snyder/Dave Willis and Father Bob McGuire. Rudest: Hmm, no celebrity has ever been "rude" to me. But Hayden Penntriete (or whatever her name is) was the least favourite celebrity meeting. Ok, what happened with her? I did a thread about it a while back but heres the short version of it. My friend and I paid $40 each to get a photo with her "Supernova Pop Culture Expo" (aka. Nerd Expo). So we stood in line for 40 minutes behind one person before she decided to get the photos done. So I entered the room and all she said was "Hi, stand on the line *click* thankyou". $40 + 40 minutes in line in a hot, tin shed = 5 seconds of interaction with her. Not worth it at all. As I have said, I know it is difficult to have to hang around with geeks, nerds and poindexters all day instead of filming Heroes, but c'mon. I paid $40 and all I get is a hello and thankyou? My day would have been ruined if it had not been for Dana Snyder and Dave Willis who signed all my Aqua Teen Hunger Force dvd's, Squidbillies dvd's and had a 15 minute chat with them. FOR FREE.

Went to see Lagwagon and they were at the bar we were at after the show with a couple of guys from MXPX. They were nice enough to take pictures with us and shoot the shit with us for the night even though my friends and I were wasted like crazy. They were good dudes.
And Dustin Diamond beleive it or not. We went to his comedy show, which my friend and I thought was hilarious (we were really really drunk). Our DD said we were the only ones there who were laughing. But again, after the show we got our picture taken with him and he was really cool.

I never had "real" interactions with famous people other than standing across from Reggie Miller at a Best Buy, Brian Knobbs saying "excuse me" as he walked by my group before a WCW Nitro show, and helping clear a bunch of fans away from Kurt Angle's car years ago.

I really only have 2 celebrities I've truly met: Christy Hemme and Scott D'Amore (this was right before Bound for Glory 2006 for a proposed TNA house show that never came to fruition in Toledo).
Both were very nice to myself and my friends while doing an interview for said house show. Christy called me "a little puppy dog" (being the youngest person on my old radio show did that to me; I was only 19 at the time). All I have left of that encounter was a picture that is on my MySpace page, since the interview got corrupted in the computers. Scott, though quiet, was a gracious guest.
So, all in all, I've had good experiences so far. Hopefully there will be more in the future for me.
(P.S. For the last Toledo house show (before the Royal Rumble this year): never get near CM Punk's car. He will try to bowl you over. Thankfully, I wasn't the road.)

I also met and got autographs from the late great Reggie White, Brett Favre, LeRoy Butler, Lynn Dickey, Mike Holgrem, and a bunch of former Packers players. They were all super nice.

The 2002-2003 Memphis Grizzlies roster were all really nice. They did a team autograph session, so I got signatures from Shane Battier, Pau Gasol, "White Chocolate" Jason Williams, legendary coach Hubie Brown, and my personal favorite player at the time: Stromile Swift.
Dale Earnhardt Sr. was also a class act. I cried on the day he died (I was only 8) because I was such a huge fan. I was so proud that I had his autograph and that I had met him at a dinner a few years before he tragically died. I even got to ask him a few questions and take a picture with him in front of his classic black "3" car.

At a local MMA show I got to meet Enson Inoue (From PRIDE FC) and UFC fighter Sean Sherk. Both very cool very down to Earth guys. And at another show at the same place I got to see Joe Camacho (Low tier MMA fighter) and Daniel Puder (Kimurad Kurt Angle on Smackdown) Didn't see too much of them, but they were also cool guys. And at a Car dealership I got to meet one of the guitarists from the J.Geils band (Can't remember his name), he was pretty nice guy as well. Safe to say all of my celebrity encounters have all ended smoothly. If I ever wanted to meet any celebrity thats alive now, I would like to meet Bas Rutten from Inside MMA, I love that guy so much and I can't wait to meet him at the Anaheim Convention in August. And if I were to meet a celebrity that has died I would want nothing more then to meet Bruce and Brandon Lee, who are two of my all time biggest idols. It makes me so sad that I can't meet them.
