OMG if you watched the opening sequence and didn't you have no soul. One of the best movies i've watched and the only time i've openly cried while watching a movie.

I hear it's good... but I was disappointed when I found out that it wasn't a remake of the 1976 Russ Meyer film.

Pollo...I'd like a new Meyer UP too...but I so very much agree with this quoted statement it's not even funny. I was weeping openly watching Carl and Ellie's journey...in my humble opinion, that is the most heartwrenching thing I have ever seen in animation...sadder than LION KING, BAMBI, and DUMBO all rolled into one. I was weeping openly in the theater, and I think this might even be sadder than Jurassic Bark. No, I KNOW it's sadder than Jurassic Bark. It's absolutely devastating. And then when Carl looks through the album...there went the waterworks again. I know this will more than likely win the Best Animated Feature Oscar, but dammit...it deserves a Best PICTURE nomination. Truly a hearwarming story, and one of the best films I have ever seen in my life. An easy ***** out of five. Go see this NOW. You'll be glad that you did. God, I'm tearing up again just remembering it.

No seriously. See it. I was watching it with the girl i love, and well you know she was welling up, and i was welling up.
God, just thinking about it gets me feeling, gosh. That's excellent film making, and it was wasn't schmultzy either.
You see them meet as kids, then you see them grow, and they say more in that than any monologue or "i'm gay" "i'm special needs" type of film will ever say.
It's honestly the best piece of animation and music pieced together. Seriously, WATCH THIS MOVIE

It's just powerful filmmaking, and PIXAR is just head and shoulders above every other studio out there in terms of quality storytelling and emotional resonance. God...just watching Carl help an old and doddering Ellie up the hill.....that rates at least five of these guys: Like Joe said....SEE THIS FILM! Ya think we should put it in our sigs, Joe? ;D

This movie was a total roller coaster of emotions. I went from sobbing like a baby after the whole montage scene, to laughing hysterically when Carl yells "get a haircut, you hippie!" also the part about not having babies... Yeah, that scene was awful. Especially when the second before they are happily painting the nursery. But on the happy side, my friends and I have been randomly shouting "Squirrel!" at each other ever since the movie let out. ;D

I liked it, excellent movie, but I still think WALL*E tops it.
My only problem with the film was the villain, they didn't build him up properly. And then they overzealously dispatch him. Kinda ruined the mood for me. I could SYMPATHIZE with the villain in a movie where I was supposed to be sympathizing with Carl (not to say I WASN'T, but it made the ending awkward).

I don't think the villian was a classic villian, he was more of a guy who became too obsessed with finding Kevin and redeeming himself.
I think as far as Carl goes, it helps build more sympathy for the old guy he finally meets his hero only to find out he's a homicidal maniac.
I think if they went into building up Carl first.
Squirrel
Seriously he wasn't as much of a villian as he was a tragic character.
I also got all smiley when the house just landed next to the waterfall

You're right, he wasn't a classic villain. Which is why it felt so awkward to me. He's actually a fairly civilized guy, definitely nice and charming, who is deranged over getting Kevin. But it's never firmly established why him bringing Kevin to the states is so bad. All I've gotten out of it is that Kevin had babies to take care of, but something like that could have been smoothed over if Carl was a bit more articulate around him (really, the villain wouldn't have been so villainous toward Carl if he would have been articulate).
So then when he turns into full blown evil, it comes off strange. And when he's offed in the end, his life's work stolen from him, it seemed awkward to me. His villainy didn't deserve that. He would have been much more effective as a Miyazaki villain. He has the same problem Carl has, he can't let go of the past. Both of them let it consume them, but the villain takes it one step further. Fine. But did he need to die?
But the house landing next to the waterfall was amazing. I loved the image of the house, I loved the bird, the dog, the kid, carl, SQUIRREL.
...
Alpha's voice, the movie was great. But I still prefer WALL*E.

I was so happy to have the 3D glasses on so the people in the theater couldn't see the tears in my eyes.
Easily the best movie I've seen so far this year, and I agree it should, at least, get a Best Picture nomination.

Best Picture Nomination would be awesome, but we all know it'll wind up in the Best Animation ghetto. With Monsters and Aliens.
It definitely deserves a Best Picture nod though.

I would say this is the best film of the year and if I had a vote, I would nominate this movie for best film at the oscars.
Gave me every emotion I had.

I saw, I cried. Was surrounded by a lot of families with kids and college males. I noticed the kids we're paying attention and the parents were crying. The college guys were crying. I have tears on my shirt.
Great, great movie. I loved WALL-E so much and this is up there as well. To me, I don't want to say which one is better because I can't (apples and oranges). The father near me said at the end it was the best Pixar movie yet.

And a note to everyone who thinks they did not build up the main villian as a villian, they do signify that he is calling everyone before him a thief (even though all of them had different objectives) and kind of suggests that he has killed everyone of them. So yes, while they do bring him up to be civil.........they also build him up to be completely paranoid.

Yeah he would have worked better in a Miyazki film, which is why I'm looking foward to watching ponyo. Yeah he did kill those who came before Carli, with the goggles and helmets I was like uh-oh what's that? I would say this is the best film of the year and if I had a vote, I would nominate this movie for best film at the oscars. Gave me every emotion I had. Sadness, Joy, Anger, Laughter, and heartbreak, then laughter again. Awesome

I saw this yesterday and I would go as far as call it one of the best of this decade (Kinda overstating it?) If an animated movie can show more drama and emotion than a live action movie, this deserves a best picture nomination
