I know RD posted it a few weeks ago, but I wanted to emphasis what a let down it was. I remember as they built up this match to Summer Slam 1993, they were hyping it up to be a totally new gimmick type match. A year prior, the WWF has introduced the casket match. So a year later, the WWF is promoting a new specialty match featuring the Undertaker. As the weeks built up to the PPV, I was anticipating and speculating as to what the Rest in Peach match was going to look like. At time time, I had an idea that would be something to which you would have to burry your opponent, similar to today's Burried Alive match. And if you watched WWF heavily at the time, you probably remember the announcers constantly telling us they we had to watch the PPV to see just exactly what the Rest in Peace match was.
So, here comes the match at Summer Slam 1993. Howards Finkel is in the ring and says, "The following contest in the Rest in Peace Match!"
(Crowd Pop)
Finkel: "Here are the rules..." (ok now is the moment we have been waiting for, just like the Survivor Series 90 egg, here is the surprise to over a month of TV hype)
Finkel : "There will be no diqualification and no count-out"
WOW! That sure didn't live up to the hype. I mean if they were planning on just making the match no dq, they should have simply advertised it as being no dq like they did the Nasty Boys/LOD match at SummerSlam 91.
Keep in mind, back in 1993, a no dq match meant the wrestlers would be on the outside of the ring for a longer period of time, and you probably would see one chair shot to the upper back within the match.
