Twitter truly has no real explanation.
It's just random people micro-blogging to no audience i the hope that someone is listening. I see it as the technological equivilent of standing on a corner and yelling at strangers or passing motorists (Which under the laws of probability more than ikely fall into the previous catagory of "Strangers")
As far as I know it's kinda like E-mail as far as correspondance tho, they should have some Twitter address equivilent but responding may be the best way.
As far as the technical end

As far as the technical end It's no audience for "normal people", but it can be pretty handy in some instances, like a webcomic artist saying an update might be two hours late, rather than people raping his bandwidth by reloading the page every five minutes.

It's Facebook if Facebook didn't have pictures or any of those annoying applications. It's basically FB's "What Are You Doing Right Now?" box.

Speaking of Facebook, why is that so much more popular than myspace nowadays? You can't upload music of videos or decorate your page on facebook, which is the highlight of myspace. Plus it's like impossible to look up people unless you can find them as a friend of a friend on facebook, unless I just never figured it out.

My facebook friend's list is very minute by comparison.

Twitter is the bane of my existence.
The whole "@[username]" thing has replaced quoting on some of the message boards I frequent (including, at times, this one) and I never saw that until Twitter came along.
It's a small thing, but it's annoying. Maybe I'm lazy, but I don't want to scroll up and see who someone is talking about if they say "@[so-and-so], LOL OMG THAT'S HILARIOUS!" Just hit the quote button. Please?
Anyway, Twitter is one of those things in which I will (probably/hopefully) never participate. It just seems pointless for a regular guy like me to have one. Besides, I have a Facebook; people can read my "What Are you Doing?" if they really want to know.

I'm somewhat confused regarding Twitter for the average person as well. I know damn well that I'm personally not that interesting, and most of my friends aren't either.
However, in terms of, let's say, a real time sporting event, it's interesting to get updates from the competitors. I've been following a few IndyCar driver Twitters since May, and that's cool enough when I think to check it.
The current situation in Iran, I think, will have solidified Twitter's status as the new flavor of the day for the techno-babbling types. I, however, feel that particular use of Twitter will be few and far between.
I cannot, however, fathom "following" Ashton Kutcher or any other vapid celebrity that has very little to contribute to anyone's life outside of the occasional movie. Talk about taking Celeb Worship to an even more dizzying height.

Twitter is basically a newsfeed that anyone can use.
Its pretty silly like most SNS (FB, Myspace etc) but has two good qualities: 1) TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRACKER! YOU CAN'T BEAT THE TWEET!!!! 2) Its much less annonying that most SNSs because every third person you run into doesn't ask if you're on it. RE: Facebook.

It's simply not as big, clever, or popular as the hype would lead you to believe. I essentially use it for following the minor league baseball team I'm a "fan" of.

Sometimes people respond, sometimes they don't. You could try visiting thier actual twitter.com site and see if they've left contact info there.

Facebook appeals more to adults, especially college students, MySpace appeals more to teens. I know very few people on MySpace, but everyone I know is on Facebook.

I deleted MySpace ages ago. I occasionally log into Facebook to see if anyone has anything interesting to say (they don't). Aside from looking at pictures of a few girls I know who happen to be attractive, I generally don't use it for anything anymore.
