1961, it's the longest Stanley Cup drought in the NHL at the moment and I hope it'll end this year because I've been a fan of the Blackhawks for 15 years or so and really want to see them succeed. Of course, I'm fairly sure that Detroit will win the Cup again... I don't think I'll be able to contain my apathy if/when that happens. Wow, that long? That's longer than even the Maple Leafs, last winning in 67. If Chicago wins there's certainly hope for any team to win. Maybe Montreal finally in 2010...? Nah, don't even dream about it. Red Fisher wrote a great article about the Habs now and compared them to the teams in the second round (like Carolina for example). He said we have a long way to go before even getting to Carolina's level! But then again, it's the Habs and next season we could be amazing so who knows. We signed two new people to entry-level contracts but I don't know a thing about them. So Washington knows what it feels like to have a Carey Price in nets. Imagine that happening over and over. When Theodore was sent in "to save the day" it was like something out of a tragedy. I knew at that moment the game was lost. I hope the Boston/Carolina game isn't so lop-sided tonight.

VANCOUVER SUN: Elliott Pap reports the agent for the Sedins is waiting to hear from his clients before resuming any contract talks with Canucks GM Mike Gillis. Pap believes the twins could command over $6 million per season each based on their previous statistics. The pair have also expressed a desire not to be split up.
There can't be many teams outside Vancouver,Montreal, and Toronto that could spend that much on them.Apparently Burke wants them in Toronto.

Burke wants them in Toronto. He said so a few months ago I believe. He's also trying to get the number one draft choice as well (don't know how he'll pull it off).
I can't stand the evil that is the Leafs, but I do admire they are making serious headway into becoming a much better team. With the Habs you barely hear anything and when you do it seems to be some kind of trade that makes no sense or a really odd draft choice. I wish we had Burke sometimes.

That's all good news. NHL 09 didn't really need improvements, as it is an already great game. However, the fighting was without question the one area in need of improvement. If you don't grab your opponent, the winner of the fight is whoever lands two punches. If you grab your opponent, the winner is usually the guy who lands five or six punches. And when you knock your opponent out, they crumble to the ground like they just got hit with a sniper's bullet.

Well other than some bugs (like the one timer freeze glitch) I think they need to rework the goaltending. Also I heard they are making the passing less tape to tape which should make the game smaller. There are probably some other things with the AI on d that could use work as well.

I wish EA would come up with a fighting engine something like the one in NHL 2K9. It's miles ahead the NHL 09 system and the fights actually bear some resemblance to actual hockey fights. First-person fights aren't really on top of my NHL 10 wish list, I'd particularly like to see all the glitch goals ( such as this one) eliminated from the game. By the way, does Wrestlecrap have an EASHL team?

Have Hockey games gotten any harder or more complex (in terms of gameplay)? I used to love playing them but I find they're too easy and I end up getting blowouts every time I play no matter what team I am.
I'd love to get into them again, but I don't want to waste my money for nothing.

Bill Simmons is doing a live chat on ESPN.com where he's covering both Game 7 for the Bruins and Game 6 for the Celtics.

Eh, once you get good at any of the games it becomes easy. Last year was the first year since the first time I ever played NHL 94 I lost a game. So, 14 years isn't a bad winning streak. As far as the "glitch" goals go, EA always has them. I hate reading on on-line boards how lame it is people use one-timers to score..yeah, that's because it's a very effective way to score in hockey. Watch the play-offs, all you'll hear is about the cross seam pass in front of the net, because it works. I dunno, unless having the newest players is a big deal to you, you can pretty much play any of the NHL series since 05 or so and it's pretty much the same game.

I should be coaching in the NHL now. Ok, so I guess I'll pass.

Watch the play-offs, all you'll hear is about the cross seam pass in front of the net, because it works. It's true that EA has those every year (and I know that it's not really possible to fix every glitch out there), doesn't make them much less annoying though. Oh well, at least these days you can score goals without having to resort to cheap tactics in these games. Now, I don't mind one-timers, my problem is with those tricks that always result in a goal because of the game engine's or AI's shortcomings (such as that wrist shot demonstrated in the video), and even then mostly because those who utilize said tricks tend to repeat them over and over again... kinda like those guys who keep doing the Spike Dudley headbutt or those "nine low blows and a stunner" finishers on Smackdown vs. RAW online.

Love how the Wings/Ducks game is going so far.
I'm a fan of both teams but I'm a bit biased towards Detroit...

I know I said afterward, but I have to say snork YOU REFS!
Tim Thomas came out of his crease toward the puck on a clear and the refs called Icing and had the faceoff in the Carolina zone. Tripp Tracy is FURIOUS at the refs for blowing that call. And then right off the faceoff, bam, Boston goal. The refs are directly responsible for that goal being scored.
Can't believe the snorking refs missed that one. by rule, If they call Icing, the faceoff should be in neutral ice.
