I Netflixed the first season. It's awful. It's like someone tried to make a parody of the original series.... but I can't stop watching. It's like an abusive realtionship: I know it's bad and will probably hurt me, but I can't stop.
Any thoughts on the bastard child of Saved by the Bell?

The original series was a delightfully terrible show. This was a terrible show without much delight.

Ah yes, the new class. I remember this abomination. I also remember they advertised it on a cereal box before it was officially on TV. I looked at the cast and thought are they serious? Even as a boy I knew that characters like Weasel were just a sad attempt to recapture the old class. I remember they brought the actual Screech in after a few seasons as Belding's assistant but by then, eh why even bother.

Sarah Lancaster was in it so it couldn't have been that bad.

It was bad. Got better in the second season I thought but that's arguable I will agree. After that it was terrible mostly. I did like the character Vickie but I hated Weasal and Tommy D. I liked the additions of Brian, Bobby and Rachel in the second season but it was the start of Belding and Screech having jobs wherever the kids were, at the mall, at the beach, etc.

I remember how they kept changing the cast each season. Don't know why. It's not like a new cast is going to improve the crappy scripts they kept chugging out each year.

If it really was any good or popular it would be in syndication and it never has been expect when it was on the USA network for a short while. Meanwhile the original SBTB is still on from 7-9 am on TBS and its been there for a long time.

I think you just summed up 90% of television and movie viewing today.

Didn't college graduate and assistant to the principal, Screech, date a student in this series?
Also, Sara Lancaster!

I just loved Screech 2.0.
He somehow sucked worse than the original Screech.

Im pretty sure Screech was brought in to help boost ratings and interest to a failing show.

I had never seen the New Class during its original run, but recently I got the first season for a whopping $3.00 (after shipping) so I said why not. I was, and still am, a huge fan of the original, so how bad could the new one be?
Well, it was horrendous. Keep in mind, I am a sitcom freak. I love the 70's, 80's, and 90's sitcoms and appreciate the cheesiness of some of them. The New Class, at least the first season, had no redeeming quality at all. The acting stunk and they tried too hard to mirror the original cast. Say what you want about the original cast, but they not only clicked together but also had charisma. The new class had nothing. The acting, for those who haven't seen it, is really bad. It was Lillian Garcia trying to speak without cue cards bad.
On Wikipedia it says the New Class lasted from 1993 to 2000. That is a pretty long time. It must have had good ratings for NBC. Maybe the later New Class was better.

It also says that its original airdate in '93 was September 11.....we will never forget. I saw the first season or two before losing interest for the most part, mainly due to the turnover in the cast making for a bit of inconsistency for a sitcom but here's something I never noticed before until reading the "cast" part of the wiki page "Samantha Esteban as Maria Lopez"....Well played Saved By The Bell: The New Class, well played. I find it odd that the Scott Ericson character lasted only one season. Pretty bad when the Zack Morris of the New Class lasts only one year. Also Natalia Cigliuti who played Lindsay Warner is now on the show Raising The Bar. Appropriately enough co-starring with Mark-Paul Gosselaar
