Am I the only person who hates this?
I'll use Marcus Cor Von as an example, they explain that he played in a super bowl, but if you looked through the history of the NFL, there's no one named Marcus Cor Von.
Why even mention a real life accomplishment if you're wrestler is using a fake name?
It just irks me, because if I wasn't a "Smart" fan I wouldn't know he was Monty Brown and I would think the WWE is lying to me if I looked through a list of people that have played in the Superbowl.

I've you're obsessive enough to try and track down the NFL stats of Marcus Cor Von you're probably going to be obsessive enough to realize his real name isn't Marcus Cir Von.

Hell, we don't even have to go that far back. The guy that wrestled at Oklahoma was Jake Hager, yet they change his name to Jack Swagger and make his entire gimmick about his accomplishments under his real name. Why not let him work under his real name, if the whole gimmick is going to be about an amature achievement?
It'd be like Kurt Angle debuting and them changing his name to Kurt Los Angeles or something, yet still doing the "Your Olympic Hero" bit.

I could see someone who is a rabid football fan and a casual wrestling fan looking it up, leading to the situation that the OP described.

Yeah, that really bothers me. It's like they don't want you to connect the real person with the character, but the commentators give that info anyway...

Aren't they doing the same thing with Dolph Ziggler? Dolph Ziggler has a legit background to be proud of? (I don't mean it as a knock on him, but I haven't noticed them refer to any real accomplishments)

Also, the Spirit Squad. If they mentioned Kent state by name, then it would be the same thing, but I meant it more in the sense of huge accomplishments being mentioned that are easily looked up, like if Kurt Angle came in as Burt Tangle, but they mentioned he was a gold medalist or Jock Resner being an NCAA champion type of thing even though it's easy to find a list of former NCAA champions and see that names not on the list, but Brock Lesner is.

I remember looking back in the 90s for Ahmed Johnson to see if he played in the NFL. When I found nothing I figured it was part of a gimmick and I stopped liking him.
