I was agreeing with you but expanding on it. I whole-heartedly endorse your choice, sir. I am just hitching my wagon to your star...

How could I have forgotten HBK/Cena from RAW?
I was expecting a quick match full of shenanigans, instead I get a 50+ minute match with an awesome, decisive finish.

a few months after punk debuted he had a series of matches with stevie richards. punk was being built up with squash matches, and stevie was ECW's main jobber at the time, so on paper they were pretty bland matches, but the two of them pulled out some really good matches. that little mini-feud was one of the main reasons punk got so over in such a short timespan, IMO.

This weeks ECW, Morrison vs Bourne. I figured it would be a 3 minute spotfest ending with a Shooting Star... instead it was like half the show and was freaking awesome. I gotta go with this. Easily one of the best matches of both of their careers. There's a gif floating around of some of the moves Morrison did during the match, someone should put it in here. That was the only time I liked his finisher though he should do it more from the second rope like that.

The match that immediately comes to mind when I think of this is a match Bradshaw had against A-Train back on Smackdown years back. This was around the time Bradshaw went solo from APA but before he turned heel and developed the JBL gimmick. I *think* this was also right after he cut his hair as well.
Anyway, I figured the match would be the usual crap, but lo and behold... it was actually really good, imo. They both went at each other in sort of a Japanese heavyweight style where the slams and strikes actually looked realistic. At one point, one of them hit a slam on the matted floor that looked insanely awesome. Bottom line, both guys were just clicking, imo. It was sort of short, but I thought at that point it was easily both of their best single matches at that point.
I was surprised when I checked out a fewreviews of the show... everyone rated it from around a * to **1/2. I've never been overly big on star matches, but I definitely thought it was at least a little over average even across the board. They weren't breaking ground with fancy moves or had any real feud to go on, but it kept my interest despite not caring about either in general for pretty much their entire career (minus Bradshaw's short feud with Kaientai during Shotgun Saturday Night... I MARKED for him and TAKA.)

Big Show vs Flair for the ECW title, and Edge vs Flair in a TLC match were both surprisingly EPIC, not just for the brutality but the sheer drama.

The recent RAW Elimination Chamber match. Pretty much everyone was expecting Cena to dominate when in fact he was taken out quickly and efficiently. Add to this the shenanigans with Edge and Rey Mysterio being the absolute MVP of the match made it a lot of fun.

Batista's countless title matches may get tedious but a couple have stuck in my memory....
vs. Edge Vengeance 2007 vs. CM Punk GAB 08
The first is imo the only decent match on that show and gets great crowd reaction. The 2nd really surprised me as I didn't expect the two to put on such a great match, until Kane ran in and ruined it.

Also, the Miz/Morrison vs Yang/Funaki match from ECW last year. I expected pretty much a squash match, but it was a competitive and exciting 15-minute match. Agreed. Another one(well, I guess it was a few) were the Wang/Moore vs. Miz/Morrison matches. Really was expecting a Squash, and the two teams had some of the best WWE tag team matches since the Dudleyz, Hardyz, and E&C ran the tag division. Too bad Wang got suspended. Another Wang moment was his series of matches with London(as Akio) on Velocity. At the time, Velocity was putting on some amazing matches, but WWE really didn't care about it at all. They wouldn't even talk about the show on air, usually. But even for the greatness that was most velocity matches, these surpassed even the best. I was lucky enough to see one in person.

Punk v. Batista at the Bash. I was expecting either a Batista squash or a fe minutes of awkward action followed by someone getting a cheap win by either CO or DQ...instead, somehow, their styles went REALLY well together, something I did NOT expect at all.

HHH/Maven on Heat in like 2002. Triple H is great at those kinda heel vs underdog matches. Shelton, Brawler, Taka, etc. He always made them look awesome...

THAT HBK/Shelton match. I was expecting a couple minutes of action, then Shelton eats a Sweet Chin Music. That was the match I was going to say great match. Sheltons springboard was awesome
