In a way, anime is kinda like wrestling. Hmm... not sure how to say it correctly, but anyhoo... both anime and wrestling had some changes over the years, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, a lot of flaws could be pointed out but in the end there have been improvements as well, or something like that. Well, in the end, I really can't compare the stuff today with the stuff in the past, mostly because I'm slightly sleepy at the moment.

^^^^I can, it would be like an essay Well there is still some good story telling series. Like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. If it truly does stick to the manga, it is going to be EPIC, cause to be honest, the story in the manga is the best story in any manga I have ever read. I've heard alot of good things about FMA. But I can understand where you are coming from. I mean f***, all of Japan, plus the internet went bats*** insane waiting for the new season of Haruhi. Compared to alot of Anime, Haruhi is rather bland, but it succeds due to Otaku Subculture. Of course, the thing is, most of the countries outside of Japan focus only on the anime. The truth is, not a lot of Japanese people actually CARE about anime. They mostly care about the manga, which are the true canon of those series. I can see why, Manga is aimed at everyone, from the little kids growing up, to the retired businessman. Anime these days, is only aimed at one audience. It is like how Harry Potter fans all love the books, but a lot of them hate on the films because they have to cut so much out to make it within 2 to 2 & 1/2 hours. Better than sitting there, for over three hours, like Lord Of The Rings Oh, and BBM? Can you please post your story of how you....*ahem*...pwned...that group of anime fans that the real anime fans hate to hell and back? I might. I also have some better drawings, and more comparrisons.

I enjoy anime. Otaku, not so much. In the words of Little Kurbioh's Taylor, Let's break their necks.

There's a minute few that are great, a handful that is good, and a whole lot of bad titles. But the titles that are great and good are worth watching.
But, everyone has an opinion about this stuff. At least we're keeping it civil here.

It's really to big a subject for me to have an opinion on as a whole. It'd be like asking me what I thought of American music. What music? What decade? What genre? What performer?

I like the stuff from the 90's mostly, I can't seem to get into really recent stuff.
Plus I'm finding the fanbase to be annoying. I live with a roommate who is a total otaku. Listens to J-Pop all the time, sings it to himself while working, has 3 GB worth of hentai lolicon shit on his computer (which f***ing disturbs me), and always go on about how awesome Japan is, to the point where he almost came close to defending Japan's actions in WWII (in his words "Hitler made them do it").
I know I shouldn't let a bad apple spoil the bunch, but the poison is sinking through.

He's probably been reading Japanese history books which usually read something along the lines of "1932-1945 nothing much happened and then America dropped 2 A-Bombs on the peaceful land of Japan for no reason"

I'll give any anime a chance. I echo the statement that anime is like pro wrestling. I like Power Rangers, Wrestling, and Anime for all the same reason: A combination of action and drama.

Never understood how people over the age of 14 could get into it. Because, there is anime for all ages? The little kids get their educational shows, the teens get their action shows, and the adults get their serious shows and "adult" shows.

Let's face it, no country likes remembering their embarrassing war defeats. That's why you'll find most K-12 schools in the US glossing over the Vietnam War. Japan glosses over their WW2 stuff, and well...Germany...to them Hitler was nothing but a fairy tale.

Astroboy was aimed at kids, since that was it's main purpose. the 2003 version was aimed at a older audience. You might be right about Pokemon, maybe for the older kid around 10+. I don't know Prince of Tennis, I just put that in by Random.

So was the 80's version. but the 2003 version is completly different, since it was aimed at an older audience, which in my eyes, took alot away from Tezuka's world. Don't get me wrong, the art and animation were stunning, but when compared to the 50's and 80's versions, it isn't going to win. Hopefully the new movie will be based from the 50's/80's versions, then the 2003 version.

I tend to enjoy the episodes of anime series that focus on the ancillary characters. Like with Naruto Shippuden, I found the episodes with Naruto in them tend to follow a basic formula. Then there was the Atkatsuki/Asuma/Shikamaru arc that just told a great story. After that, they went back to being the questionably homoerotic adventures of Naruto and Sasuk-emo. Bleach is kinda the same way. Ichigo fights, goes Super Saiyan, and beats the guy he's fighting, having introspective moments the whole way. But it gets by on the huge cast of characters. But I find a lot of anime, at least the action-based ones, follow a lot of the same formula.

There's nothing wrong with anime, save for the fact that I don't see enough of it on my tv.
Hell, bring back Toonami and show some classic DBZ and other anime.

I'm of split mind. Some of them have truly captivated me, while most I just do not care about. I guess it all depends if a character gets my attention or not. It also matters about the story involved. I love Death Note for the battle of minds between Light and L/Near/Mello despite none of the characters being that fantastic. I also love Full Metal Alchemist because not only is the story engaging, but damn near every character is fantastic. The various versions of Tenchi Muyo! are all fun, and even Inuyasha is good stuff in small doses.
I do regret that we have only gotten two movies out of the Vampire Hunter D series, and somehow I managed to get burned out on Dragonball/Z/GT over the years.
For curiosity's sake, I have a question for those of you that like anime. What was the first series to hook you? For me the first series that truly opened my eyes to the potential of anime was Star Blazers, an English dub of Space Battleship Yamato.

Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, and Cardcaptors(Cardcaptor Sakura). Things like Pokemon, Princess Mononoke, Tenchi Muyo!, and Rurouni Kenshin added to my fandom, and Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, and a few others sealed it.
