Anybody else heading out to see this over the next day or two? I'm really looking forward to seeing this. I know it's gotten a few lackluster reviews, but it's Depp, so I have hope. Even though he's not really the kinda guy I would have chosen to play Dillinger (Dillinger very rough and rugged, Depp very suave and smooth), from the trailers he looks like he really pulls it off.

I went to the midnight screening. You can read my review in the "Movies You Just Saw" thread.

Since this is based on Dillinger's real life, you can't really put spoilers. If you know your Dillinger history, you know how the film goes.
It is like saying the ship sinking in Titanic was a spoiler.

I might go see this. My brother and I are trying to see a film together every month as a bonding thing, but there's nothing coming out this month that really grabs my attention, so this might be a neat change of pace from the typical stuff we go see.

Just got back. I liked the movie (I enjoy historical movies like this) but the camera type was a little odd. It looked like they tried to make it seem like a live action show. I really don't know how to explain it, but other than that, I give this a 7.5/10. But I am biased too so...

Wee since spoilers are in the title. I didn't really like this movie.
It was advertised as a fun action movie, but damnit... so damn plodding.
The Good -Decent Humor at times -Depp did well -Liked the CLoverfield Cam like sequence -Interesting period piece look into the dynamic of Good and Bad -Don Frye
The Bad -False Advertising -Nearly put me to sleep -Random Characters randomly thrown in without telling us who they are or why we should care -Too many things hinted at remaining unfulfilled
All in all, not my favorite movie of the summer.

This is pretty much exactly what I said in my review. I was pissed that it was basically the John Dillinger show when it was called Public Enemies. Plural. I said Babyface Nelson is in it for all of 5 minutes or so and Pretty Boy Floyd is in it for a whole 45 seconds and it's him getting gunned down. I wonder how much Channing Tatum got for that role. I was looking forward to seeing him do something other than, you know...be a street thug with a heart of gold or a fight clubber. Don't get me wrong, Depp was really good here, but there were a ton of unexplained people and parts. And as was already mentioned, I think there was some big time false advertising done here. If you're expecting Dick Tracy or The Untouchables, you should skip this one.

I was looking forward to seeing this but it's not sounding too good now....but if I go to the theaters this weekend I know I'm going to be dragged into seeing My Sister's Keeper due to my fiancee wanting to see it since she saw the previews a few weeks ago....
At least Bruno is out next week...

Well, people could be dense or ignore that. Or maybe they grew dulled to it after the King Arthur movie was said to be based of actual events.

"Valkyre" was the same way, although it's a little obscure to anybody who doesn't watch History or the Military Channel. History does get flip-flopped around in "Public Enemies", but as we all know Hollywood isn't about to let real-life events get in the way of a good story. I'll go see it, but not because the local papers are making this out to be "the greatest movie ever (made in NW Indiana)".

I really liked this movie, but I'm extremely easy to please. The cinematography didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It was the really loud guns that got me. I left the theater with a headache (guess I'm more sensitive to it than I remember) but still a good time.

It was good but not great. The fact it wasn't great was a shame.

Well, its doubtful everyone knew every single detail of his life, or the various twists and turns. Also its not like this is the first time a movie has been made about history, especially history that everyone knows, and maybe those movies had a few directorial liberties. So spoilers can still be put in a title to warn people and no harm is done.

I saw this movie earlier today, and I enjoyed it. Depp did extremely well, as always, and Christian Bale sucked, as always (although, he wasn't on screen enough to annoy me as much as he usually does).
What I liked is that this movie had kind of a different style to it. It focused on the bad guy, and while it didn't try to make him look the good guy, I still cared about him and wanted to see him win. They made the cops look like dicks, even though they were technically trying to do good. The score really added to the feel of the movie, and John Dillinger just comes across as such a badass.
What I didn't like was that some parts of the movie kind of went nowhere, and there were some disappointing moments.
I think of it kind of like The Crow. It's not a GREAT movie, but that can be ignored due to the style and feel of the movie.

I just heard about the movie recently as I don't watch much television. So does Depp play Chuck D and Christian Bale is Flavor Flav, or have I missed something?
