Did they include him breaking out of jail with a fake gun? That was slick.

Wee since spoilers are in the title. I didn't really like this movie. It was advertised as a fun action movie, but damnit... so damn plodding. The Good -Decent Humor at times -Depp did well -Liked the CLoverfield Cam like sequence -Interesting period piece look into the dynamic of Good and Bad -Don Frye The Bad -False Advertising -Nearly put me to sleep -Random Characters randomly thrown in without telling us who they are or why we should care -Too many things hinted at remaining unfulfilled All in all, not my favorite movie of the summer. You pretty much hit it on the nose, Cela. I too thought Depp and Bale were very good with their roles, but the movie just doesn't do enough to make us give a damn about anybody in the movie who ISN'T Depp or Bale.

I really liked this movie, but I'm extremely easy to please. The cinematography didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It was the really loud guns that got me. I left the theater with a headache (guess I'm more sensitive to it than I remember) but still a good time. You thought that too? I thought I was the only one. During that gunfight in the woods, the guns were loud as all hell.

Did they include him breaking out of jail with a fake gun? That was slick. They have it in the theatrical trailer, at least. Haven't seen the film yet, but I saw the trailer, and they have the part with him holding the fake gun while behind prison bars.

I finally got out to see it today, and I loved it. Depp was great as usual and Christian Bale wasn't too bad either. I loved the way it was shot and the overall look of the film. The gun fights really didn't bother me, but that might be because my town's theater is a little on the crappy side. But Marion Cotillard really blew me away, though. She was definitely the break out star of the film.

Some random thoughts...
I was disapointed by it. The whole experience just felt empty. There was no emotion, no reason to care about any of the characters, and I knew nothing more of John then I did before buying my ticket.
There was no drama to robbing the banks. Unlike American Gangster where we see Crowe and Washington battle each other from different sides of the law, here I could care less about Bale's character.
You have all these interesting characters, and 150 minutes to showcase what makes them so unique, and instead, it just falls so flat on it's face.
I liked Michael Mann's direction, and the acting was good, but I doubt I will ever watch this again.

Saw it last night, and it was okay despite some major historical inaccuracies. (Dillinger was killed three months before Pretty Boy Floyd and four months before Baby Face Nelson.) Depp was good in the role, although some of the dialogue was poorly written and cheesy. Bale's performance was very one-dimensional, which was again, due to the script.

I saw this movie earlier today, and I enjoyed it. Depp did extremely well, as always, and Christian Bale sucked, as always (although, he wasn't on screen enough to annoy me as much as he usually does). What I liked is that this movie had kind of a different style to it. It focused on the bad guy, and while it didn't try to make him look the good guy, I still cared about him and wanted to see him win. They made the cops look like dicks, even though they were technically trying to do good. The score really added to the feel of the movie, and John Dillinger just comes across as such a badass. What I didn't like was that some parts of the movie kind of went nowhere, and there were some disappointing moments. I think of it kind of like The Crow. It's not a GREAT movie, but that can be ignored due to the style and feel of the movie. I just got back from seeing it and I'm the opposite on Depp's character. I do think he did a good job. However,I don't think I ever wanted to see someone get what's coming to them more than him. He was such a smug scumbag. Sure,he seemed to have somewhat of a heart but not enough for me to root for him. However, again,I think that was great on Depp's part that he made me feel that way. I thought he did a really good job. Overall though, like others have said,I thought the movie was just okay. Not horrible but by no means great either. I thought it could've been about 45 minutes shorter as well. It seemed like it went on forever at times.
