Forget about what you know now about the Chris Beniot tradegy. But, a few weeks before Beniot's death, he wrestled Lashley on the draft Raw. Do you think that is a prime example of the WWE misuse of talent ? Benoit did a clean job to Lashley in like 5 minutes. Plus there was no backstory. H ypothetically, if Chris didn't kill himself, the WWE could have gotten a good thirty minute PPV match out of Lashley and Beniot.

It seemed like they were teasing a Benoit heel turn, too. He refused a handshake after the match and walked off, and was then scheduled to face Punk for the ECW Title at Vengeance. I had a feeling he was going to turn after the match and continue his feud with Punk.

You forget though that Lashley was drafted to Raw later on, so I doubt there'd ever be a rematch between the two. Not to mention that it could still be considered that no matter what, Lashley was bound to leave WWE anyways.

Shame that Benoit did a real life heel turn not much later.

It didn't hurt benoit to lose to Lashley.
It made Lashley look fantastic.
I don't see the issue.

Would it have been even possible to turn Benoit heel? He arguably had ventured into 'legend that never gets booed' status.

Would it have been even possible to turn Benoit heel? He arguably had ventured into 'legend that never gets booed' status. No, he never had any kind of character to turn heel. No mic skills or charisma to get fans to care to boo him. Another perfect example of this is Shelton Benjamin. No one cares if he's a face or heel. He puts on great matches, but has no charisma one way or another.

It was along the lines of serious Angle, just without the promos.

Benoit's character worked very well because he only ever needed a slightly tweak in his on-screen personality to go from face to heel and back again.
He could have easily turned heel though, he was hardly a "legend that could never get booed". We're talking Hulk Hogan and the Undertaker there. Even Ric Flair could still get boos when he needed to.

I disagree Benoit was very charismatic to the point where he didn't need mic skills he just came across as an ass kicking machine which drew people into his matches.

The only difference between heel and face Benoit was one.
Heel Benoit holds a hold one second longer, gives one more strike he needs to, hits one more suplex he needs to...
And it worked.

Its important to remember Lashley was pushed to the moon over most of his WWE career. This match was not inconsistent.

Benoit always bored the hell of me and I had no interest in Lashley either.
