The Giant Center website is advertising Edge vs. Jeff Hardy in a #1 Contenders Match for the June 14th SmackDown/ECW house show in Hershey, PA. While this likely does not mean much, it should be kept in mind it does suggest there could be a plan for Edge to drop the World Heavyweight Championship at some point. www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/wwe-news/possible-world-heavyweight-championship-spoiler.phpSo while there could be nothing to this story to speculate about (and what fun would that be ), it does leave open the possibility that Punk is cashing in soon.

If Hardy/Edge is last tonight, I wouldn't be surprised to see Punk cash it in.

Or what if Edge or Hardy is champion, and the challenger is wrestling a non-title match to earn himself a title shot, thus making him No. 1 contender?

God I hope that's a mistake. I like Jeff, but Edge dropping the title again would just be a joke, not so much for him, but for the title itself. I think Jeff will and should be champion down the line, but now would just be too soon.

I think that's just a smoke screen. Harvey's gotten the upperhand on Edge just about every time since he became number one contender. Edge retains tonight and either Punk cashes in at the end or Edge/Hardy in a rematch at Extreme Rules in a ladder match.

I meant being champion again. He did admit he lost his passion for the business so I doubt it. Wasn't that from the shoot interview when he left in 2003, or is this to do with his contract negotiations? I don't think he's said anything about the latter in public, except that it's believed that wanting a lighter schedule is a factor in those negotiations. The last report that came out suggested he was close to signing a deal anyway, if he hasn't already.

^ The latest story (from Meltzer as of last week anyway) was that he's got a lot of nagging injuries and just wants time off to heal and work on other projects. He's not unhappy with the WWE and he will most likely be back at some point even if he decides not to resign right now.
Everything in the booking points to Edge retaining, so possibly these two stories are just swerves.
