With all the talk lately of WWE actively trying to shut down illegal stream sites for showing their PPV's unlawfully, I wonder if maybe WWE has ever though about going back to a thing of the past.
Closed Circuit TV.
If WWE did this they could sell lots of merch at CC sites, the DVD sales of the events would go up, and they would make money off each person watching, instead of just one household watching.
Now granted the downside is people would actually have to go out of their way to see the events. At the same time a plus of that is it would make all their events into social gatherings. And i'm sure there are people who could still catch the feed of the event, but it might be alot tougher to actually broadcast it.
The price would have to be right though, no one is gonna pay 40 bucks to sit in a movie theatre or whatever to watch Judgment Day or whatever. 15 bucks a person would probably be just the right price.
I know any of this isnt likely to happen, but its something I had been thinking about lately and wanted to get your opinions on.

They already do show them in movie theaters. You just have to know where to look.

In a related issue, the next WWE music album should be released in 8-track format to combat illegal file sharing.

Instead of trying to work with new technology and go into the future. They will go backwards and completely kill the PPV idea. Not really good business in my mind.

I just got to Stadium Grill in West Chester and hang with a bunch of my friends, eat good food, and watch it for free.

I just got to Stadium Grill in West Chester and hang with a bunch of my friends, eat good food, and watch it for free. Now that I know where a free blast zone is, I'll see you for Extreme Rules. But, no, going back to CC TV won't solve the piracy problem. NOTHING will stop the piracy problem, unless every government in the world decides to regulate the hell out of the Internet and actually had the resources to persecute everyone watching and uploading streams. All it takes is one person with a PPV feed, a hookup to their comp, and an obscure enough IP address and WHAM! Insta-Piracy feed. Maybe if the WWE put on shows that people deemed worthy of 40 bucks, it would help their cause, but how is a company that currently produces 6 hours of new content a week on free TV feasibly going to charge 40 bucks for a product that's only marginally better than the free product, in this economy, with this level of piracy?

I would go to a theater to watch a PPV. A theater packed full of WWE fans would be fun.
