- During a WWE creative meeting recently, one member of the team brought up the idea of turning John Cena heel. Vince McMahon lit the guy up about how foolishly short-sighted the idea was.
There's a feeling that with all the merchandise revenue Cena brings in, turning him heel is a bad idea, at least until his merchandise cools off a little. The second reaction from someone close to the situation is that maybe the guy shouldn't have been lit into like that because they should be open to discussing ideas even and even if it's a bad idea, it should be encouraged as something different.

Cena isn't turning anytime soon, especially with the way they're pushing Orton/Legacy at the moment.

Cena isn't going to turn anytime soon. He's way too over as a top babyface.

You really can't blame WWE. The cost is too much for him to turn. If he starts declining, however, then Vince would be all 4 it.

These days it only happens in the Smarkiest of cities and it's still about 50/50 at worst. Philly is the only town I'd expect Cena to get a mostly negative reaction.

I think it would be a mistake to turn him. Even if he sometimes gets booed, he still gets bigger reactions now than he ever did as a heel. Plus I think the booing has died down a lot and it's gotten to the point where even the crowds that boo him say "you can't see me" when he signals for the 5 knuckle shuffle.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.

They don't need to turn him heel now, the Miz is doing his heel routine. Miz will be bigger as a heel than Cena was as a heel in 6 months.
Jesus, did I just type that?

Why the hell would you turn a big face like that heel when his overness dips? You have to turn Cena while he is still mega popular to get as big of an impact from the move as possible.

One big problem with turning Cena: who do you have as the face to his heel?

If they turn Cena heel in a couple of years and he's just not as over as he once was, a lot of fans will just see it as surprising, but they'll get used to it in a few weeks. Meanwhile, if you turn him heel at the height of his popularity, it would cause a huge shock that would instantly make the program more interesting, because they'd just turned the entire Raw brand on it's ear.

It's the same principle as Hogan's NWO turn, his popularity was fading, he was a face so long that the heel turn really meant something and got him way over again.

Or you'd have a Goldberg/Sting reaction to the turn. Which is never a good thing.
