A couple of guys nearby opened up an arcade...an actual arcade with actual video games from back in the day, man! For the first time in like 20 years, I have a blister on my left hand from the joystick. It was awesome. I would encourage all Cincinnati crappers to check this place out. It's called Arcade Legends. They charge a flat admission, and all the games are on free play.

Sounds awesome. The only arcade near here that I'm aware of is filled with those annoying "dance like a goon" machines.

When I was a kid each arcade had approximately 11,000,000 paedophiles (or at least creepy looking teens) to every kid.
Most arcades are crap these days but there used to be a decent one in DeKalb. Don't think there are any around here.

I miss the days of Arcades
When I was a kid the only reason I went on Holiday was the arcades, Now I have MAME and I'm hoping to make a Cabinet of my own.

They sell sodas...and energy drinks...and they have a snack machine.

Cool. Shame that the idea of the arcade where kids get together and crowd around the newest game is dead/dying.

Yeah, it's too bad home gaming systems got to be so big. The poor gamer nerds lost their social standing in the world.

I remember the coolest arcade ever was in New Jersey. My mom, my brother and I would visit my aunt (mom's sister) and they would take us to this place that had "miles upon miles" of video games. They would leave my brother and I off at that arcade, then my aunt and mom would go to Atlantic City for the day.
I still cherish the memories of that time. I became a real expert at Kangaroo, Pole Position II and Zookeeper. (Zookeeper frickin' rocks!)

There's a place in KC about an hour from where I live called PowerPlay that I went to for the first time a week ago. I was expecting ALL new school stuff and was floored by some of the older games they had mixed in. Hell, they had a machine with "Tengen Tetris" on it, I slammed a few rounds of that.
They even had Ultimate MK3 which I played the crap out of, and a big screen machine that had 20 old games on it. I played Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Dig Dug I and II (Dig Dug II is my all-time favorite classic arcade game). I even played on a Guilty Gear XX machine for the first time ever, having only played it on the PS2.
Might I also add despite having gamecards as opposed to tokens, they don't scam your ass on game prices ala Dave and Busters. Each game is precisely priced as it should be. A DDR game is 3 songs for 75 cents, Ultimate MK 3 is 2 tokens, that old school arcade compilation machine is just 25 cents despite it being a big-screen machine, and so on.

I've wondered before if opening an arcade with nothing new, only games would work. Just 80s stuff, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig-Dug, Joust, stuff like that. Or maybe a place where you enter, the door on the left goes to the 80s room, the one on the right goes to the 90s room with all your classic fighters and driving/flying games. I'd love to do that but I really doubt there'd be enough people like me to turn a profit.

There used to be a place around here that charged 5 bucks to get in with all the machines on free play. In addition to that, they also had 3 Atari 2600 systems with nearly any game you could think of, and 2 rows of PCs in the back for PC gaming. This was about 6-7 years ago, and I think they have since closed. Shame too, we had planned on making another trip down there before we learned of its closing.

Yeah, the two arcades I'm familiar with have shut down.
There was a small but cool one at the mall near my friend's college. It was never crowded and had a nice selection, albeit no pinball and everything was pretty much 90's or newer. It finally shut down and fye took over (it was attached to their store anyway... apparently years ago it used to be the "coat room")
There was another, really cool one in State College. A good bit of old school games from Pac-Man to WrestleFest to newer stuff. Everything was arranged really well... a big setup of pinball machines, fighters in the back, etc. It didn't have any of my personal favorites but that almost made it nice as I'd just move around to playing a bunch of stuff. Again, it shut down.

Flat admission with freeplay? That's an awesome idea!
What kind of games do they have? Sounds like it's the old school, but do they have newer cabinets? What's their fighter selection like?

As a true arcade rat, I support your thread. I haven't seen a reasonable one in quite some time. They are all but dead. Next time you sign in to your X-Box Live, you think about what you did to your local arcade scene. Cretins.

I like the japanese arcades myself. They have floors of just one style video game, and it's great. Unfortunately, alot of them require playing cards and I don't have any of those.

I wish there were any good arcades around anymore. We have arcade machines in the bowling alley where I work but they all stink. Sort of, not really modern, but not classic either.
