I got this idea after reading the post on Eugene/Hacksaw and remembered something.
I remember during the Monday Night wars, how Curt Hennig was just kind of floundering on Nitro and some genius had the idea to create a Mr. Perfect 2 with (Perfect) Sean Stasiak. And I remember reading a review where the guy says "This is absolutely wrong. Sure Curt Hennig's fat, out of shape, and blowing up these days but He's Mr. Perfect Dammit".
And For all "I Never got Hacksaw" posts, I remember when he joined Team Canada and shaved that beard, carried around the Maple Leaf flag, there was this huge groan around the world where everyone's like "Hacksaw's Canadian now? that's just wrong" or "He shaved a got a Haircut, that's not Hacksaw dammit".
Any of you guys got a "They should never mess with this formula" story with a certain wrestle. (whether they've done it, or you're saying they should never do it).

Undertaker's recent run that has him looking like a bad guy from Walker, Texas Ranger. If you're going to have him return as the Deadman, whip out the effing PURPLE GLOVES AND TIE! He's supposed to be the Lord of Darkness. This pretty much applies to the biker phase as well.

A couple months ago I would have said JBL's mid-card status should never have been changed, but now I'm all for another World title run for him.
What else should never have been messed with? Going with Lillian Garcia over Howard Finkel for the announcing duties. The Fink just had that magic to him that made every entrance memorable.

I whole heartidly agree with Perfect. They should never have messed with that. Also they shouldnt mess with
-Hogan -LOD -Hart Foundation -Sting -Flair
All those men had a profound impact on wrestling some way. Hogan & Flair were the rulers of the '80s, LOD was the best team of the early '90s, Sting is just great all around no matter what charactere he was. And the Hart Foundation just because of the legacy of the Hart name.

Sting is just great all around no matter what charactere he was. So wait, they shouldn't have changed Sting because he is good, no matter what they change him to? I don't follow, and I certainly don't agree. Even Sting admits that his character needed an update.

No I'm talking people recreating the gimmicks. There could never be another Hogan or Flair, they shouldnt have LOD 2005, you cant mess with the Hart Legacy, and NOBODY could ever be Sting because he fit his role well. No matter what character it was. If Rob Conway came out next week dressed as Sting people would be pissed because Conway could not recreate the Sting image. See where I'm going with this?

Wonder how they'd react if Conway dressed like Sting, but kept his "Just Look At Me" music? Probably the same as they do now. Nothing but crickets.....

I remember when HBK first came back, I was a little let down since, aesthetically, he wasn't the hbk I remembered. His hair was shorter, he didn't have the layered clothing, his tights looked like an apa design.
Then he slowly started putting it all back on. One day with the special oversuit, then the traditional broken harts tights, his hair finally grew back in and he was wrestling a heavy load schedule again and all was right with the world
Well, I don't really care for those new tights he wears that look like chaps.
On that note, I like the singlet tights that Angle wears, and I miss them on Shelton and Haas. Haas brought that and the warm ups back a couple times on velocity, but Shelton changed to a cool looking trunks only version, but now he changed that to a gayer design. It went from kind of cool metallic look to this goofy nickelodeon, kids meal design.
I guess that should go in the subtley changes thread, but point being, "Don't drasticaly change the tights". If you come in with Long legged tights, don't switch to speedo trunks later. And if you're build up as this awesome amateur wrestler, you don't take away the singlet.

TOTALLY! Bring back Two In the Pink One In The Fink! Other things that should never be messed with: Flair as his own man as opposed to HHH's lapdog.

DX, the first version was groundbreaking, the second version was cool and the third version is forgotten by most fans, which is a good thing.

Steve Austin only with a mustache.
And Austin in the WcW invasion, loving mr. McMahon, and crying for Angle not to kill him.

Exactly!!!! I mean he's still UnderBiker...I mean he looks exactly the same exept he wears a hat and mascara now. I mean I gave it a chance....but I mean without Paul Bearer...he's just a hybred Taker. I miss the old Ministry look he had...now that was kinda freaky.

Yeah, it was....
I agree wholeheartedly with Austin. There are just so many things that are sacred to diffrerent people....
One that jumps into my mind is the Rock's music. When they changed it to that idiotic looking Hollywood type theme, and got rid of the "If you SMEEEEELLLLLLL....." part, that sucked big fat donkey balls.

I guess that should go in the subtley changes thread, but point being, "Don't drasticaly change the tights". If you come in with Long legged tights, don't switch to speedo trunks later. And if you're build up as this awesome amateur wrestler, you don't take away the singlet. I agree! Wrestlers that keep their wrestling attire more or less the same throughout their career have always impressed me. I used to look forward to wrestlers changing their in-ring attire, but like you said, it would be the subtle differences. As such, Rob Van Dam has had the best entrance attire for any gimmick in my opinion. I find it amazing that Bret Hart managed to keep the pink & black gimmick throughout his WWF career and even into WCW. One of my favorite lines in "Wrestling with Shadows" was the comment about lamenting over the fact that he has made pink a signature color. I think Triple H made the best change from long-to-short tights. The long tights suited him as a blue blood, and even as a degenerate, but when he turned into the Game, he needed to get the more traditional "speedo"-style tights. Almost anyone else would be too much of a shock. Mr. Perfect went from short tights to a singlet well. Hulk Hogan made the change from short tights to long tights as a part of his adoption of the NWO gimmick, which was well done and almost too late. Randy Savage did it years earlier, but I think it made him look somewhat foolish (or "clownish") at the time. As for Shawn Michaels (my favorite), I like the transition into the "Heartbreak Kid" tights in 2002 (which were first seen at WrestleMania X). But the new chap-like tights are (in my opinion) very cool. I think the change is long over-due, and the style suits him perfectly (since it is not a huge deviation from what we have always known).
