I just finished my newest set of MST3K episodes from Shout. The last one being Girl in Lover's Lane and I have to say I felt that the movie was actually good. Obviously not a masterpiece but I did feel it was a nice little movie.
I know I felt the same way about Tormented.
So are there any MST3Kied movies that you feel were actually pretty good and not actually bad?

I Was A Teenage Werewolf isn't really that bad. It's not fantastic or anything but compared to most of the dreck that gets skewed on that show it's a minor offender.

PARTS: THE CLONUS HORROR had to be good if they remade it as THE ISLAND

Am I the only one who thinks Rowsdower is one of the few decent hero characters on MST3K? He managed to perform pretty well under huge psychological torment, didn't end up giving into the POWERS OF DARKNESS, and for once seemed somehwat aware of his surroundings and what he was doing.
This Island Earth really didn't deserve to MSTed, its FX and plot are too high quality.
Hercules against the Moon Men is also surprisingly watchable for what it is.

They had the "Giant Spider Invasion" on TCM Friday night, which I dvr'd so I can watch it. I recorded both that and Monster A Go-Go (on right before it) to see if I can survive the non-MST3K version. I actually just watched Girl in Lover's Lane today. Definitely wasn't good or anything, but they've done worse.

Spider Invasion is more doable.

When I first watched the MST3K version of Monster A Go-Go I was kind of tired so I assumed I fell asleep and that was why I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. Then I found out it was made that way.

Swamp Diamond is actially a fairly good movie about an undercover female officer infiltrating a group of female convicts so that they will lead her to their stash of hidden diamonds.

I thought This Island Earth was actually pretty good. Actually, I think the MST3K guys would at least somewhat agree with you. I think the deal when they signed on with Universal to make the MST3K movie was that they thought they'd have carte blanche to pick anything out of Universal's vault to skewer...and then Universal threw in the caveat that they didn't actually want them to riff on any truly bad movie in their vault. So, instead, they took a movie that was pretty well received in it's time and simply hadn't aged all that well, so the effect was not what they wanted. They ended up making a future MST3K episode that ragged on how bad their experiences working with a movie studio were.

Was Universal honestly so afraid to admit that they had god-awful films? I guess if I had to choose a favorite, it's the Hobgoblins movie. I'll need to pick up it's sequel, though...

It's the kind of insanity you'd get from Hollywood executives, sports team owners, Vince McMahon, etc., basically anyone in a big-wig entertainment position. They're so afraid that exposing the fact that, yes, they've made crappy movies, will hurt their overall image, and yet by tying Best Brains' hands on what movie they can riff, they cost themselves money in the process.
