Remember when it was cool and edgy to have a tattoo? I miss those days.

I've got no problem with so-called "tramp stamps" as long as thought is put into them, like you obviously did. It's the one's that chicks get that are obviously just for the sake of trying to look cool I dislike. Kinda like when dude's across the country started getting the Goldberg style tribal tattoo. If you didn't have any input in the design, you shouldn't be getting a tattoo. That's my stance. Don't pick something out of a book, have a design in your head and a reason for said design. Tattoo's are supposed to be an artform, your body is the canvas and you should be the artist. The tattooist is the person who helps you put pen to paper so to speak My sister has a tattoo there. And someone I've met had the word "Tramp" tattooed across her lower back in the style of a stamp. It is just a spot to get a tattoo. Though I like the inspiration to the design. I was planning on getting one of the strange designs from Planescape: Torment as a tattoo.

Yeah, I get ink because it's a way to express myself. Same with my piercings. I don't get ink to be cool or to impress people. I really don't give a good god damn what people think of my ink, I was just sharing something. I get very annoyed when people purposely refer to my Knuckles tattoo as "Red Sonic". It was funny the first time, but it's irrating by the 20th. I had someone here call my Buckley skull tattoo "ugly" last year when I got that. I'm not the only person in the world with that design, but it means something to me. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person with this one though, or I will be.

Ahhh. The tattoo debate. I think its pretty well accepted that tattoos are not 'edgy' anymore. So why bring it up. Some people like to get tattoos. I have none. My girlfriend has a full arm sleeve, something on her chest, and a huge train and an own on her leg. She doesnt do it to be edgy, she does it because she likes them. Its tiring when people assume people who are obviously already 18 and up are doing it to rebel against something. Some people just want drawings in their skin. more power to them.
And to the original poster. I am normally not a fan of tramp stamps, but OMFG UM JAMMER LAMMY MILK CAN TATTOO IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOO AWESOME OF A TATTOO IDEA. For real. Post pics when its done.

Three cheers for tramp stamps. And the fact you're going Um Jammer Lammy is awesomely quirky.

Hey, as long as its something you like, go for it! You've got the right attitude of not giving a f*** what anyone else thinks.
This from a guy with one tat of Betty Boop dressed as a native american.

Its tiring when people assume people who are obviously already 18 and up are doing it to rebel against something. Some people just want drawings in their skin. more power to them. Allow me to expand on something- I was actually lamenting the fact that something that had one been truly original and a signifier of one's belong to a sub or counter culture has now been completely co-opted by the mainstream, boring society. I find there to be a sort of artistic value to the designs of tats that sailors and bikers used to get. There was an originality and expressivness that is now completely lost, as people cover themselves in generic tribal designs, sloppily inked stars, or cartoon/video game characters. Make no mistake- I have no problem with that in and of itself. It's your skin and you can do what you want with it. But I believe that it has come at the expense of something that once had true artistic value. I believe so many people are consumed with "expressing themselves" with tattoos that they don't actually express themselves at all. But that's just me. And please, I don't want to hear about how or what a person's tattoos mean. I'm sure they DO mean something to that individual, and that's fine. I now fully expect this comment to be misinterpreted and raked over the coals, so let me add this: I'm not slamming tattoos (at all), I'm not slamming people that choose to get them or what they choose to get. I'm simply lamenting the fact that they are not what they used to be.

I HATE that phrase but it was the best way to explain it. I have a bunch of tattoos I want (I have two now) and this is my next one: My favorite video game of all time is Um Jammer Lammy. Milkcan is the fictional band in the game. I love the music from the game, so the best tribute I could think of was getting the band put on me. My lower back has the best amount of space, so there you go. All of my current and future tattoos have meaning behind them, so I know what I am doing and will be fine at 90 with this on my back. I'll post a picture up on Tuesday. Awesome. But you do realize that getting a tat with the words "Milk Can" right there is just asking for it, right?

'tribal design' and 'original' is an oxymoron. just because you changed some of the lines doesn't make it not look like everyone elses. You obviously haven't seen my barbed wire tattoo across my arm.

Cool.
I agree, I don't think "tramp stamps" are bad as long as they're original and this one definitely looks like it. I think bright and colorful tattoos look really great (although I believe you have to get them touched up moreso, although I could be wrong.)
I really wanna get some tats, someday I have the extra income.

This thread reminds me of an awesome saying...
You see the place I get my tatts done have this awesome plaque simply saying:
"The difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care if you're not tattooed"
