We all know the story. Shane McMahon comes out on the last Nitro ever and announces that he bought WCW right out from under his Father. This lead to a lackluster WCW (and later ECW as well) invasion that ultimately ended with WCW's despise.
The thing that I hated about the angle from the beginning was that Shane buying WCW out from under his father was just a VERY obvious storyline. Stephanie being the new owner of ECW was a VERY obvious storyline. The Invasion angle came off as just another WWE storyline, yet it dominated the majority of 2001, which is when most people agree the WWF began it's downhill slide.
But what if the storyline had been altered slightly.
Nitro and Raw are doing the simulcast thing. It has an awesome surreal feeling to it. Vince comes out on Raw to make the official announcement that he has purchased WCW, when he is suddenly interrupted by familiar theme music.
"This Is Extreme" is played in the Nitro arena and Paul Heyman (conspicuous in his absence as the Raw color commentator) makes his way to the ring.
"You need to learn two things right now Vince.
1. WCW was not worth nearly as much as you think.
2. You need to fire your people.
You let WCW fall through your fingertips, and it fell into my waiting arms. See, the money that I've earned from your company since I closed ECW, was MORE than enough to gain control of this once great company.
I may have lost my master creation, But now I'm going to destroy yours."
Both Raw and Nitro fade off the air, and the InVasion angle is officially kick started at a much more intense and believable fashion.
