Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho was a decent makeshift team.

Rikishi has been in several... Rikishi's pairing with Too Cool was random. Rikishi and Rico (face/heel team) Rikishi and Big Show (Showkishi) Probably others I blocked out of my mind...

Hell Yeah!!! The make shift tag teams are a damn good idea. Some that worked pretty well were The Big Show & Spike Dudley (AKA The Little Show), the underdog team of Spike Dudley & Tazz, Billy Gunn & Chuck Paulambo (they actually received mainstream press coverage), Owen Hart & Yokozuna, Kidman & London, Christian & Lance Storm (The Un-Americans), Regal & Storm, Jericho & Christian, Simon Dean & Maven, and my favorite makeshift ever, Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit. Even Animal & Heidenrich have become one of the reasons I enjoy SmackDown. Think about this, several successful tag teams started as makeshift teams. The teams include the APA, the New Age Outlaws, The Outsiders, Irwin R Schyster & Ted Dibiase, and Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake. The makeshift tag team thing is hit or miss. Sure, some guys don't jell as a team, but others go on to become successful, full time tag teams.

I hope to god if Striker and Eugene become a team they dont call them "Special Education" or something like that. Now that I said that it is totally going to happen. "Special Education"....I'm not being a wise-ass here, that's a REALLY clever name!

It's interesting how many people complain (not necessarily in this thread but in the past) about no "real" tag teams and throwing guys together for makeshift teams. But if you look back at the tag team champions from the 70s, geez a good percentage were just guys that were thrown together. Tony Garea had at least 3 different partners.

Nowadays, makeshift tag teams would be a good idea, with the lack of a tag team division, and especially if the brand split ends (which i highly doubt). It would def help out lower midcarders who have nothing to do.

i only wish that the teams had names. makeshift or not...I hate it when they are introduced as "so-and-so" and "so-and-so". And then they use only one guys music. Like Jericho and Christian...Christian got screwed and had to use jerichos music.
Honestly...the best makeshift teams were the ones who got new gimmics out of it...new team name and everything...like High Energy...Power & Glory...

Hell, how about All Japan during the early 90's? If I recall, some of the best tag matches ever went on at that point, and it's largely because they'd simply pair up two great wrestlers against two other great wrestlers, and build storylines and big matches from there. Hell, one of my favorite tag teams right now was one that was makeshift AND made because of an emergency: BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs. That pairing wasn't even supposed to happen, but they've had some GREAT matches since they became a team.

Am I the only one who remembers Steve Blackman's teaming with Grandmasta Sexay just before he left the federation. And before that he was in a kick ass tag team with Al Snow. I fondly remember those two talking backstage, Blackman bringing uo how he didn't think their teaming to be a good idea. Then Funaki came backstage and said "Ah, Headcheese!" almost provokitively. Good Times.

I would still say that the best example is the New Age Outlaws. Here we have, one who is a good wrestler, has looks, but doesn't have the heart in wrestling, the other who is average at best, and BOOM! You got a team that is together much more than they were separately. They were probably one of the best entertaining tag teams together, much more than any I can remember.
Booker T and Goldust are another good example, but neither were average in the roles individually; I liked them a lot, but they didn't really need each other. The New AGe outlaws, on the other hand, has not gotten any success since they split.

i hate when they pair up guys as tag teams then they come out seperatley or with ones music and dont have a name for their team, in the 80's whenever 2 guys were put together they were given name like the mega bucks and mega powers, even though those teams temporary teams.

Long post, but dive in...
Thing is, I don't remember anyone complaining about the Smackdown Tag Team Title tourny, and that was FULL of thrown-together teams. Why didn't anyone complain? Cuz the matches were frickin' great. Austin/HHH vs Jericho/Benoit- two totally makeshift teams, one totally awesome match which made the tag team titles look mega.
As it stands at the moment, it's more along the lines of "which lower-midcarders can we shove together to randomly dump the tag team titles on?", leading to matches which are rub and which nobody cares about.
This seems to be more the case on RAW than on Smackdown!- looking back over the last 18 months of tag champs over on SD!, at least Rikishi/Scotty had a reason to team up; Heidenreich would ALWAYS end up with someone random as the climax to his "Ah need fraynds" storyline, which itself came from months of MNM-Heidi build-up; Guerrero/Mysterio had a long history and a believable friendship, plus it advanced a story (their eventual feud); and Kidman/London and Mysterio/Rob had teamed up for donkeys.
This leaves only Rene and Kenzo (aka Renny 'n' Kenny, aka The Racist Gimmicks) as a "will this do?" team. And hell, they mixed their music, made them do the stereo French Tickler, had Hiroko carry both flags and did their damndest to get them over as a legit team (apart from giving them the same clothes and a team name).
Over on RAW, when not hogged by La Resistance, you had Rob Van Dam and Booker T (who teamed why?), Chris Benoit and Edge (who, OK, were teaming prior to Edge's injury, but Benoit hardly needed the tag belts) and Regal and whoever was around that week. La Res rarely had much on offer to fight against (Superheroes x 14885938250293523 times and er, that's it), hence dumping the titles to the purposefully makeshift Losers Of Taboo Tuesday.
It's true that the 70s were full of "single wrestler + single wrestler" teams, but most people think of the late 80s/early 90s as being the golden era for tag team wrestling. And the names thing is true: Hercules and Paul Roma, why were they together? But by calling them Power and Glory, you suddenly had their gimmick AND a decent team. If they pair up Rene and Tyson, at least give them some sort of name, although only "Erection Problems" springs instantly to mind.

Kane's suffered from makeshift tag-team-itis constantly because now that he can't be a demon hellspawn post-kayfabe, his character lost a lot of depth. How many partners has he had that have lasted a decent-length run? Mankind Undertaker RVD Hurricane X-pac I'm sure there's more Damn... you are right. I completely forgot about that.
