Were the WWF creative trying to create their own Taz by giving a similar gimmick and kinda similar haircut. The only funny thing I find is that instead of giving him a submission move as his finisher they gave him a Vader Splash move. Godfather was a successful gimmick as it was the attitude era, but to me Kama Mustafa was a joke as he had no qualities of a shoot fighter. If only they would've brought Papa Shango back.....

I don't think so. The gimmicks debuted really, really close to each other, at around January-Feburary 1995. Taz was still doing the Tazmaniac gimmick at the begging of the year while Kama debuted in January. Even if the Taz shooter gimmick started first (and Taz was still teaming with Sabu until February), WWE would have had a month at most to see it, get impressed by it, and then copy it and Taz, quite frankly, didn't hit his stride with the gimmick for a couple of months yet.

Hardly. Kama Mustafa (while big) did nothing to strike fear in me. he looked like a big goof trying to act like a shoot fighter.
On the other hand, ECW's Taz scared the crap out of me. Much of that had to do with the way he was booked with all of the head-drop suplexes and variations, combined with his look and ultra PO'd attitude. That black towel on his head was like an executioner's hood.
He really got momentum when managed by Fonzie and the whole "path of rage" build to his showdown with Sabu.

I doubt it. I think they were both just trying to cash in on the success of the UFC becoming a big underground hit.

KAMA actually stood for Kick Any Mans Ass, so they were just doing a lame shoot fighter gimmick.

Like the poster above said. I think they were just trying to cash in on the success the UFC had started to recive at the time. Kama was a lame and boring gimmick though and as his main feud in 1995 was with The Undertaker (as part of the Million Dollar Cooperation) I feel they would have been much better bringing the Papa Shango character back rather than trying this lame and boring gimmick out. He also had no mic skills at that time (what we did see of him on the mic) either.

Taz would choke Kama out in 30 seconds flat.

Kama was a kickboxer who used his martial arts kicks and strikes to takedown his opponents. Which you know is true, he is legit trained in Kick Boxing I met KAMA and person, and the dude is large.

As everyone else has said both Kama and Taz were both characters influenced by the then cult sensation UFC. Actually in ECW they even went as far as to pit Taz up against UFC 7 finalist Paul Varelans in a "worked shoot match".

I guess I am the only one that loved Kama and thought it was an IC Champ worthy gimmick. Amazing gimmick that got left behind.

"BEAT ME IF YOU CAN, SURVIVE, IF I LET YOU!!!" and with those words, Taz goes on to become a wrestling legend. This reply pretty much sums up what I would have said to this post, thank you pushkilla15. - bretclark
