this is what I read - Regarding the incident between Austin Aries and some fans last night, as Aries was leaving the ring, a fan grabbed his shoulder and spun him around. Aries felt as if the fan was going to hit him, so he laid the fan out with one punch. From there, a friend of the fan tried to jump the railing, and Referee Paul Turner got involved at that point to stop any further altercation. If that's the case, he's not getting a nickel unless they settle just to stay out of court. He has no claim.

This kid has zero sympathy from me. He obviously just want's to be known as the guy that was punched by austin aries. If he was serious about the lawsuit then the first time the picture would have been shown is during the court case. Dude, If your a member here I hope you see how pathetic you are. Just remember this. The only thing you got out of being hit was a story. Which you'll probably be telling your grand kids about.

Small monetary sum if that.
Punching someone in the face when they grab you at an event at which you are an audience member... you've technically provoked the attack. I won't feel bad for this guy.. especially for crying to wrestling web sites before the authorities. This just wreaks of wanting attention and recognition from something you don't deserve it for.

My take on it is if he kept saying stuff to him then ares shouldn't have hit him.
But if he did touch him in any way, then yeah ares should've decked his ass.
It's pro-wrestling so fans should be allowed to say anything to wrestlers, but if they're going to try and run in then they deserve to get knocked like that.

1) jesus christ that's a shiner 2) you talk about someone's missus, you're gonna get walloped. it is't always right, but it's never surprising. 3) if he did push/hit/put his hands on aries in any way and it's caught on camera, can't aries and ROH sue HIM for assault?

Doubtful considering the guy could bring every wrestling tape he owns as evidence that fans touch wrestlers all the time and incidents like this do not happen...notably when coming down the isle...heel or face...Im assuming the whole case would just be dropped...

You know, kayfabe would play a role in the court proceedings. Fans may know it's not legit and unscripted, but it's supposed to be. And if a fan in the NFL actually got on the field and bumrushed a player, what would we be saying if that player knocked the fan out like this? (I was going to say the NBA, but I thought...oh yeah, Ron Artest.) We'd just call it self defense and not even take the time to mention the fan's name on SportsCenter.
When it comes to heels, fans stay in their seats and yell insults. That's it. You never cross the line into physical contact, no matter how trivial. Faces never have to worry about being jumped by any angry fans, so I doubt anyone will sue because they got a hug or a hand slap. But heels should always be prepared for a fan, or fans, to go batbleep insane. And while you can't go knocking out every fan who says the wrong thing, when it comes to them grabbing you or throwing punches...you have to protect kayfabe and do something about it.
So, in closing, ROH is not responsible for any injuries sustained when you don't keep your hands and feet where they're supposed to be - on the other side of the rail. It's like Vince McMahon said once on RAW in 1997 talking about the angle with ECW..."And these guys jumped the rail last week, and that's not cool fans...you don't jump the rail."

Honestly (and I'm prepared to hold out my flame shield for this one), I hope the fan wins the case. You don't punch somebody for something as trivial as that. It's not like the guy was actually going to do anything to his girlfriend, Aries needs to be more professional.
What about all the times Lita was called a "slut" by fans? Should Edge have gone around punching faces? (though that would have been amusing).

That eye looks a bit fake to me.
According to every report I've seen, he initiated the physicality while saying what would be classified as "fighting words" in a legal sense. So he has no leg to stand on. Plus hte fact that he went to the web first and more specifically, DOI, further makes him look like an idiot.
I swear some fans think they can solve all the world's problems by posting on a message board.
And there are quite a few laughable posts in this thread.

As a lifelong Pacers fan and one that had to witness the downfall of a top of the line franchise because a professional couldnt keep his wits to him and had to attack a fan over trivial crap I %100 agree with you...Part of the fun of going to a wrestling show is the ability to heckle the heels and go insane for the faces...thats the draw of the business and the wrestlers know this...A wrestler should never, EVER, put his hands on a fan unless serious harm could happen to him and it doesnt look like thats the case here...

I was at the show, from what everyone was saying around me, Aries was leaving the ring area, heading backstage and this fan grabbed Aries by his left shoulder and spun him around, so Aries knocked the guy out, probably thinking the guy was trying to start some crap.
As a straight male, I can honestly say that Aries is so bad ass and dreamy <3
Also, I don't know where the "Aries is a douche" thing came from, because one time as I was leaving the Tick Tock Diner after an ROH show, Aries was standing outside, saw me and my friends and said "Thanks for coming to the show tonight guys". So, he seems like a cool dude.
Aries is the best!

You know, if Aries did hit him he could have quite literally sued the pants off of him (and ROH by extention) but he has done so much to destroy his case that any lawyer that Cary is likely to have can win this with his eyes closed. Why would anyone like to literally sue someones pants off?

Now that I think of it, isn't Austin Aries left handed? Because that shiner on his left side sure looks like a full-on contact blow, not in on an angle like a left fist would've been. Maybe the image got flipped around. As a lefty, it is easier to punch with the right hand. Really? When I pretend to not be a fat Indian kid, I find it easier to punch with my left. I don't think anything will really come out of this, but I hope this gets made into an angle of some sort.

There is legal precedent behind using "fighting words" and a defense. So you can defend by physically assaulting someone? Show me some proof or a court case...This is news to me...and if so im decking everyone I know that says one verbally offensive word to me from now on...

I'm sadly starting to believe that IWC favortism really does exist. Almost every eye witness is saying the guy put his hands on Aries. People are just inclined right now to believe the eye witnesses. The only time I ever made contact with wrestlers during a show was when I sat in an entrance-aisle seat at Final Battle 2005. I slapped some hands, and patted KENTA on the back. Wrestlers are used to that. Spinning them around? You're begging for trouble.
