I watched "The TV Set" the other day. It follows a screenwriter whose pilot is getting made into a show and the problems it suffers throughout the making (IE the writer's favorite actor isn't selected to play the main character, the executives keep having "ideas" to improve on the show, etc.) and I thought it was a pretty good comedy with some nice dark spots to it, especially the ending.
David Duchovny plays the screenwriter and I believe that Sigourney Weaver plays one of the "helpful" execs. They were both great in their roles.
A long while back, I saw "Living in Oblivion" about a director (played by Steve Buscemi) trying to get his low/no budget film completed while suffering typical set-backs for filming. (My favorite being an actor giving their best performance of a scene while the camera isn't filming. Steve's reaction that it isn't being filmed was awesome) A really funny movie in my eyes.
So, I was just wondering if anyone else has seen these or others like them, because those two were great watches and I'm always looking for something I can enjoy.
...
Yeah, I'll even take Urban Legends (UL2) as a discussion point since the movie is built around a director making an UL movie while the cast/crew gets knocked off in similar circumstances. That would probably be the...extreme of the "bad happenings" movie spectrum...

Bowfinger is on my need-to-see list. I'm looking to track it down some time. Thanks for the link. I'll have to find some free time for it.

RKO 281 is an enjoyable, well acted piece with some solid actors (James Cromwell, John Malkovich, and Liev Schreiber) telling the story of the making of Citizen Kane and the film's struggles and William Randolph Hearst's attempt to bury the picture once he learned the picture was thinly veiled fictional biography of himself

THE BIG PICTURE. Brian Micheal Bendis did a three issue comic detailing his attempts to bring TORSO to the big screen and in it he says that the movie is dead on

tch ..... and no GODS AND MONSTERS or THE PLAYER ..... Ahh...The Player. That's somewhere in my VHS collection. Fred Ward was great in his part. Anyway, I hadn't heard of RKO 281 or Shadow of a Vampire. Those sound good. Looks like I will have some good movies to see.

Does "Adaptation." count? Its primarily the story of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (played by Nicolas Cage) and his struggles to adapt a book into a feature film script.
"Wes Craven's New Nightmare" sticks out, as well.
I enjoyed Living in Oblivion, Shadow of the Vampire, and Gods & Monsters.

What Just Happened released last fall. Robert Deniro plays a producer of a film that he needs good reviews in order to keep his career. Sean Penn and Bruce Willis appear as themselves with Willis having a brilliant rant.
