Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm late to the party, but I only recently got a computer that will allow me to play games made in the last five years. I know TF2 is supposed to be great, but what I'm worried about is the learning curve and the attitude toward new players. The game looks like a lot of fun, but if getting the hang of it is frustrating and (more importantly) I have asswipes griefing me and verbally abusing me for being a n00b all the time, that can suck the enjoyment out of the experience really fast and I'll probably just give up because I play games to blow off steam from work and school, and I don't have the time or patience to slowly learn the ropes and get treated like crap while doing so. I know some classes are easier to play than others, but on the whole, can you pick up TF2 and not be complete cannon fodder fairly quickly? And is the community of players decent types, in general? (FYI, I have played PC FPSes before, though I am by no means l33t. Are the kids still saying l33t these days?) Thanks.

I haven't played the PC version, but the 360 version has a fairly decent community and everyone is usually nice. The learning curb isn't too difficult.

I haven't played in a while, but it was on PS3 when I was.
I was usually the Medic, of all things.

For the price it's at now, there is no reason why anyone should not have the Orange Box.

Why wouldn't you? Why would you NOT play a game because of the community? f*** the community. The game is fun, whether people pretend to like you or not..

Advice: Get The Orange Box. It's got TF2, Portal, and the first 3 parts of Half-Life 2 (the original, Episode One, and Episode Two).
You won't be disappointed with it, especially since you can get it on the cheap nowadays.

You know under ESRB ratings where it says, "Game experience may change during online play"? Yeah. In a multiplayer-only game, the way other players act is a huge factor in how much fun you have. Basketball is fun, but there's a big difference between playground basketball with your friends and finding yourself in a pickup game with dickhead hustlers who talk trash the whole time. I know that playing online with random strangers will never be the same as a LAN party with your buddies, and there will always be a few jerks, but to me good online multiplayer means people with a wide range of skills levels who are generally easy-going and make it easy people who are new to the game to get up to speed. That's part of why I love Left 4 Dead; you can jump into a random game, and usually all of your teammates are reasonably laid-back and just there to have fun. (I've heard people are more uptight in Versus mode, but I usually only play Campaign.)

Get it and play on the OCR *Overclocked Remix* server. Were all niceish people on there. As long as your not a jerk we'll be nice and help out, and you'll hear some sweet Game music remixes every now and then.

I thought you were talking about Fortress 2 the movie. Now I'm disappointed.

Yes you should, and you should also pick the Pyro.
Seriously, it's the best online FPS I've played. There's a lot of variety, not only with the various classes, but also with the various modes. There's stff to unlock so you can actually adapt the characters to your gaming style, and all in all it's tons of fun. Oh, and it's also a lot easier to get used to the game mechanics and actually get some frags than in other online FPSs (especially Counter-Strike). And for some eason, the TF2 players seem to be less dickish than most online gamers.

Absolutely love it, just hate the fact that Valve has left the 360 high and dry when it comes to DLC. I mean, we should have the Sandvich upgrade already.

Believe me, the PS3 gets no love either when it comes to TF2 DLC. Of course, Gabe Newell hates the PS3. Maybe if someone dunked it in chocolate sauce... My aim was to play as a Medic and hide behind a Heavy. Once the medigun is fully charged, we're both invincible and damn near unstoppable. I even got my fair share of kills with that syringe gun, believe it or not. Although the bonesaw was pretty useless, IIRC. Damn, now I want to play again. I hope people are still playing on PSN.

Also, about the community thing. Well, search well, and eventually you'll find a fun server with a good atmosphere. That's what I did so I always have fun and there's never any flaming or bickering.

Valve hates the PS3 with a passion(they let EA make the PS3 version of The Orange Box), so no DLC WHAT SO EVER for PS3 owners.
