I work from 8 to 5. I have an hour lunch break in there. But if I work through lunch then I get to leave an hour early.

I work 8-5:30 or so. Depends on the day and if I get everything done on time or not. There have been days I don't get off till 8 at night.

I work from 9 to five babysitting, but that doesn't really count.

Almost every job I've ever had has been from 8 to 4. The only exception was when I briefly worked the night shift at a factory from 4 to 12.

I go to school from 9am till 3:15pm. I get a 15 minute break and 45 minutes for lunch. On Wednesdays we get to leave at 2:30pm ;D
And at my part time job I work for 3 and half hours without any breaks.

I think it's impossible these days to work from 9-5. I think that'd imply you only get one 30 minute break in the day, and that'd be it. I can't imagine a person being all that productive with just one tiny break like that.
9-5 is lame anyway. I rather wake up early and work till 3:30 4.

My first job was in a candy factory, and I only got one 20 minute break a day. It never hurt my productivity but I do admit that the job was shitty.

I just mean that, while it's my average, I also have to get up at like 2-5 sometimes to watch the baby until it sleeps, so, it's rarely just the 9 to 5.

SO I have to ask. With such a small minority of people actually working 9-5, how did this become a standard in America?
Is it a relic from the old days when Factories were the big employment centers in America?
For the record, I work 6-4:30 with a half hour lunch

Here in the rural midwest, the majority are at work by 8 (with many at 6-7) and unless you are in retail or food, you are done by 4-5. We seem to start early and get done early.

I work 9 to 5 every once in a while. But my hours are usually kinda random. During Summer, I've been working 11 to 6 or so. But since I work at a place that employs mostly high-school and college age kids, most of them are going back to school next week and I'm working 8 to 4 or around there. But since so many of them are in school (pretty much everyone in my department except for 3 or 4 people, myself included), I go in at 8 but the time I get off is random. I get to work 8 to 6 on Thursday. Joy.

Never. Then again, I've never worked daylight period... I've worked 11-7 and then 2-10 at two different jobs.
