Lets not forget that the NWO/Sting angle was a monumental failure.

Few people will say the invasion didn't look good. How it played out was like watching a teenager lose their virginity. It was a mess and everything kept moving way too fast. If ECW and WCW had been distinct entities for awhile then been forced to team up to even the score it would have made sense. As it was ECW and WCW hardcore fans hated each other more than they hated WWF so allying the two so soon did more to alienate those fans than draw them in. And maybe they could have logically worked Steph in there by that time. As it was ECW reformed and merged and was headed by Steph on the same show. Plus if they had drug it out and made a few Alliance guys strong they could have had the Outsiders, Flair, Hogan, Goldberg, Steiners, and then maybe even Sting. Plus after months of fighting it would make more sense for some of the WWF guys to defect, but they hot shotted the betrayals too.

I liked it. It was an interesting time to be watching wrestling.
Up until I discovered the IWC and internet news I had no idea everyone hated it.

Lets not forget that the NWO/Sting angle was a monumental failure. No, the finish was booked poorly. The buildup is still one of the greatest ever. Anyway, I knew the invasion had gone to hell the moment ECW joined. While others were marking out over that moment, I knew they were hotshotting something that shouldn't have happened at least a year into the storyline, not the second week. It would have really helped if WCW still had programming at the time. The dream angle of the WWF vs. WCW wasn't WCW becoming an nWo-light stable and invading as heels. No, dammit. We wanted to see Stone Cold invade Nitro while Goldberg was invading Raw. The other side would only be heels when they were on the opposition's programming. Yeah, I know the WWF supposedly couldn't secure programming for their new WCW, but I honestly think they just didn't care enough to really push for it.

No. The only thing I'm thinking if Rhino didn't get injured would have he his big push went on.

They ended up getting the nWo less than a year later and they also ended up getting Steiner, Flair, and Goldberg.
If they had fleshed out the storyline, it would have been better.

Personally I think the Sting build up was atrociously bad. Week after week of phony Sting attacks/ real Sting attacks with idiotic announcers who acted surprised at the redundancy and transparency of some of the angles.
The payoff was the worst EVER.. EVER, and it showed the horrible lack of direction with the company
That being said it drew really well, I just dont think a simular angle without some major overhaul would work today.

The ECW addition was such a botch, but I marked HUGE when they made the first turn and Heyman gave that promo. Two other mistakes I felt they made with ECW guys:
1. RVD should've been in the the 10 man match at the PPV. Yes, his matches with Hardy at InVasion and Summerslam were good but he was maybe the biggest X-factor in the whole thing right from his debut.
2. They had a chance to make Raven into a huge player when they brought back ECW and didn't do anything with him. Of all the guys on the ECW side, he was the longest reigning ECW champion and basically the focal point of the company for two and a half years. He was also a fairly big name in WCW during a time when no one not named Sting or Goldberg or in the nWo was getting attention from Bischoff. They could've either made him a big force for the Alliance or had him get fed up with the McMahons/Heyman and start another Flock to be a third entity in the WWF/Alliance mix. Gah.
