Say whatever the hell you want about WWE. Not a whole hell of a lot of people, though, would argue they don't know what they're doing with video packages.
and
These two videos set the tone completely. With the first, it felt like, even though things weren't always in WWF's favor, they were in it for the long haul, this was life for them.
And with the second, even though the eventual angle was plagued by bad timing and injuries, if for only a little while, it couldn't BE a bigger deal.
Hell, WWE can even make Kid Rock seem profound, just as they did with the Desire videos with Creed. I don't think any other wrestling company can really compare in regard to their video packages.
TNA, I do hope it does well, and they've done alright so far, but they don't even come close to the weight this sort of thing carries. 5 years or so in their bucket, how could they even try, really? Nothing against them, just the honest truth.

The stupidly long Victory Road promo was decent enough, but with TNA it's like they're smacking you round the head with it to make impact (no pun intended). With the WWE packages, they are so much more subtle and yet a hundred times more effective.

Plus, I think putting Andre smiling in anything makes anything heartwarming. heh I was more of a mark then and all, but I remember the nWo one legitimately pissing me off at the time. I guess that was the intended result.

Totally agree. I heard Kevin Dunn started these, and I think he should just stick to doing this because he's amazing at it.
As for TNA, from what I've seen of it this is the only video that's impressed me:
and this is from 2 years ago.

I don't think TNA has used "We Are Wrestling" in a while, but even a glimpse at these vids make me think "Haha, no, you REALLY aren't." WWE manages to really drive the point home "There's wrestling, and then there's WWE Wrestling. We are the big stage."

I was amazed after watching WM 23 (haven't really seen a lot of PPVs) when just minutes after the last match they had a video ready including stuff that had just happened moments earlier in the main event.

This always stands out to me as well. Having put some highlights together myself through the ever professional Windows Movie Maker - the fact that they manage to pick the best bits, time them with the music, add any special effects and have it all ready very shortly after the bell rings is pretty damn impressive. Sometimes I wonder if they're still finishing it when it starts airing, but I have no idea how that's possible. And back to the original topic - I love what they did there. To this day Vince's famous NWO "poison" promo is one of my favourites ever. It has a nice slow build and by the end of it I don't think I was ever more convinced that he literally wanted to destroy the world. The video package just makes it 10x better. So yeah, much credit to the WWE production team. For my money they even made the triple threat at Night Of Champions seem like the most momentous rematch you could imagine.

I love the bits where the different generations are doing the same thing, high flying, lifting belts, stare downs, spinning around etc.
It was a small thing but linked the past to the present and showed the WWF's evolution.
An updated one with Eddie, Cena and others would be much appreciated.

The WWF Desire videos were all amazing. Some of the best marketing videos ever produced by anyone.

Those were indeed tremendous. It really is amazing how they could make professional wrestling seem so important with these.
Since the subject of Desire videos has come up again, I'm going to take another shot at this: a while back, I heard of one Desire video I can't remember ever seeing. It was set to Creed's "Weathered" and had a lot of backstage and pre-show clips...Flair sitting in the ring looking up at the lights, Eddie talking on his phone, that sort of thing. I asked during my run on here in 07 if anybody knew where I could find it, and nobody seemed to know anything about it, though there was general agreement that it would be pretty cool if it was legit. So does anybody know if this thing really exists, and if so, where I might be able to see it?
