Phil Hellmuth is an excellent poker player. Eleven of the WSOP bracelets confirms that. However, that said, he is extremely easy to infuriate when luck comes into the process...and it's hilarious.
I don't know why it amuses me so much, but angry Phil Hellmuth often leads to me chuckling at what is front at me.
Perhaps the way he explains why the winning hand was wrongfully played (How dare the guy with three of a kind not fold to Phil's semi-bluff...) while cursing the world or acting like it's okay when he does it that makes it just head-shakingly fun.
Then again, I seemingly chuckle at the profanity beep in a Pavolian Dog way. That could explain something...
Phil loses and explains why the winner is horrible for winning and should basically be ashamed of himself.
Phil's anger gets the added fun of Phil Laak throwing gas onto the fire.
There are plenty of angry Phil videos out there, but I don't want to go YouTube crazy...
Sure, the Poker Boom is has passed and the popularity and dipping now, but I still enjoy it. Perhaps because, despite being a "boring" thing on television, there are plenty of interesting characters.

I always told myself if I ever made it to the WSOP in any way shape or form despite not being a poker expert/nut (which a long time ago I wanted to do...and if I ever got a shot I would still probably make the trip), the very first thing I was gonna do is find the table Hellmuth was at and either take a seat or sit and wait until someone got up and moved to a new table, and then try to knock him out just to be the guy who set him off.
Of course nowadays I assume they probably have a system set up for which table you sit at.
Then I'd try to find Daniel Negreanu (my fav player) so I could shake his hand and so on...and then I would try my damndest to never go against him.
He seriously is the Happy Gilmore of the game...except he's like that to everyone, so he doesn't exactly represent the "everyman" of poker.

It's gold.

Phil's anger gets the added fun of Phil Laak throwing gas onto the fire. This clip shows why Laak and Jennifer Tilly are a perfect couple. There was a great Hellmuth blow up where an amature kind of got under his skin by talking about Phil's TV show. Then he beat Phil. Can't find footage of it Hellmuth blow ups are great. And not really a "blow up" but a great "loud Phil" moment was when he finally won POKER AFTER DARK I'd also love to be the guy to knock him out of a tourney for the blow up, but the guy I'd love to meet to just shake the hand of is Phil Gordon. The guy has does a lot for cancer research. Meeting Chris Ferguson would be cool too. There's this guy that wrote a book about how to use cards as a weapon (Adam Savage also learned from him as well). And well besides being a laid back guy, that would be cool to watch

Hellmuth is a genius at the card table, but honestly I feel his "breakdowns" are just for good television. I think he knows people watch him to freak out and insult his fellow peers. Any "sucker" player would easily go on tilt after losing a hand like Hellmuth does, but Hellmuth is smarter then that. I think it's all an act.
Hey, it works, because he's one of the most famous poker players of all time.
I've played poker for only 6 years, but even I know that the game, especially Texas Hold'Em is full of swings. Hellmuth claims to play every hand "perfect" but shit happens. He doesn't seem to understand it.

The one and only time I enjoyed Phil Helmuth is when he and Mike Matusow were getting snippy with one another and they made them both go sit in time out. It was at a WSOP like eight years ago.

Could have been at the 2001 WSOP, so that would have been the one where Hellmuth didn't cash at the Main Event and Mike Matusow made it to the final table. I do remember of a memorable moment form the 2002 WSOP between Phil Hellmuth and Sam Grizzle. Grizzle punched Hellmuth in the face in the parking lot after they were arguing at each other. Speaking of Hellmuth, his entrance this year in the Main Event was just ludecris. He dressed up as Julius Ceasar and was escorted into the poker room by a bevy of women in white grecian outfits.

Sounds about right, but it's just something I watched in passing, so I'm not sure. There's something about two of the game's most belligerent crybabies locking horns that's funny to me. Matusow didn't like the way Phil played something and *gasp* had something to say about it. Phil *gasp* had something to say about Mike having something to say about that. Then they just kept picking at one another until whoever's in charge got tired of it. It was awesome.

Sam Grizzle. LOL he reminded me so much of Randy Quaid. I loved the episode where the two of them went head to head a bunch of times.
