God that's a catchy headline, so much so that every gaming site is using that as their headline for this specific story: www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25118To sum everything up: The creator of gundam was brought in to speak at a game developers conference and said that if game developers only focus on improving technology instead of improving gameplay then video games will be nothing more then a waste of electricity. He also says that there hasn't been a game better then tetris in the past 20 years.

INDEED!
So, seriously, he's just saying that gameplay needs to take precedent over graphics, or it's all a waste. I can agree with that.
Not on Tetris, though. Super Mario World had to be considered better, right?

Ah, he's just mad because of the lack of a memorable Gundam game.

INDEED! So, seriously, he's just saying that gameplay needs to take precedent over graphics, or it's all a waste. I can agree with that. Not on Tetris, though. Super Mario World had to be considered better, right? yeah that's what the article said. He compared the upgrades in technology with video games to how animators use CGI. He was saying that while CGI is new technology he hasn't seen anything memorable with it while Gundam has been around for 30 years and isn't CGI. Here's some direct quotes from the article: "You have to find the median -- that games are not evil, perhaps not necessarily good either, but something that can be considered a pastime. What would make people enjoy a game? How do you make them feel like it is not just a waste of time?" "If finding answers to these questions were easy," says Tomino, "then something better would have been out by now. Has there been anything better than Tetris since it first came out? How many years has it been? This is what I want to tell you: I want you to create a game that does not negatively affect our daily lives and is something that is considered more productive." "People who work on CG have become too dependent in using the software and tools, but forgot the most important question: what are we doing, and what are we trying to create using these tools?" "People working on CG have become caught up with how to use these tools, but do not give a thought on creating content that will be relevant 10 years from now. As long as we remember to ask ourselves the question, I believe that a hint towards the next step can be seen."

He makes a point about the gameplay thing, though he's wrong about Tetris in so many ways. Yes, Tetris is still fun, but let's not act like it's a bastion of gameplay. It's just a simple, addictive game.
Also, if he hasn't seen anything memorable with CGI he apparently hasn't watched Pixar's movies.

So Tetris is better than Ocarina of Time? I love a round of Tetris as much as the next guy but it's such an overblown game.
I definitely agree on his gameplay>graphics point though.

Ah, he's just mad because of the lack of a memorable Gundam game. ^^^ Really now. The Gundam games range from terrible to meh, it was okay. Why listen to the criticism of a man who's not the slightest bit critical about where his license goes? I do agree with him for the most part though.

Peggle kicks Tetris's ass and beats its dog for good measure.
