It seems to me that more attention has been on the guests hosts each week than any of the actual talent on the show. That can't be good...what do you think?

Backseat, entirely.
One thing I've noticed is that it seems like they're going to make a point to have Jericho and Show take exception to EVERY SINGLE GUEST HOST that comes on. That strikes me as stupid.

If your not in the Orton/Cena/HHH triumvirate, you're getting overshadowed by the guest host.
