Love the game. I've beaten it twice, don't think I ever got any higher than 200%, though.
I used to own it for PS1 back around 1998-1999 or so, but ended up selling it with the PS1 when I got an Xbox. I wish I would have kept that game- I've heard of people charging ridiculous prices for it.

One of my favorite games ever. It's nice seeing so many people that appreciate it, or have even heard of it. You can't get tired of playing it. It has a map that you uncover as you explore! I love that feature in games, I love uncovering maps so much.

My older bro let me borrow his copy of SOTN back in 1999, and I managed to beat it, getting the best ending, and after I left home to serve in the Army, he took it back without telling me. In Fort Hood, TX (where I was stationed), I bought another copy of SOTN off eBay, but I lost that copy during my tour to Baghdad, Iraq. After leaving the service, in 2007, I bought another copy of SOTN (the original release version), and since then, it's been with me. I forget to mention that the two versions I lost were the Greatest Hits version.

I have the original version and I love it. I can't get bored playing that game. To show you all how much I love the game I have the soundtrack on my mp3 player and listen to it when I work early mornings.

The one I had was in one of those huge PS1 boxes that the first run of games was in.

The only negative to SOTN was, in my opinion, the art direction that Castlevania went in from then on. I'm not too keen on the whole bishounen (sp?) thing, though giving Dracula a goatee was awesome.
Other than that, unlike Dracula, Richter would tell us that mankind could indeed use a savior such as this game.

That game was so sick. It's like it was all the good things a Castlevania should be, but it was executed kind of like an RPG Super Metroid. All the special move magic and the familiars, the secret sword moves and the shield rod combinations; you could transform into mist, for crying out loud. Mist! Plus, the voice work was so awesomly awkward. Also, I'm also a big fan of the Granfaloon.

It was almost impossible to beat it when you remove all it's parts.

Let me also add that I loved the shady little confession booth rooms where some ghost person would appear and sometimes try to stab you.

I kinda pride myself on being a living, breathing FAQ for the game. >_>
Know what was a cool weapon? The Fist of Tulkas that dropped from the Lion enemy in the Inverted Library. It was not only a powerful gauntlet-type weapon, but a QCF motion threw out a fireball. And the B,F motion turned Alucard into Kenshiro. Every time I use that motion, I can't help but go "ATATATATATATATATA!"

Combined with the ring of Ares, it can pretty much tear through every enemy in the game.

Anytime that Charon, the guy that takes you over the river to hell turns up is a plus too.

Also, I'm also a big fan of the Granfaloon. In the Japanese version, and since Harmony of Dissonance, it's called Legion (as in, "We are Legion, we are many, we are one"). Nothing can beat the cheap-ness that is the Crissaegram. Combined with the ring of Ares, it can pretty much tear through every enemy in the game. The Ring of Varda (which is only available if you have a cleared game save) is very much game over for Dracula, esp. if you equip two. Also, try Shield Rod + Alucard Shield.

One thing I noticed, when you do the 99 luck thing when you replay the game, the rest of Alucard's stats are really sucky.

It's f***ing gorgeous. I was so sad when they went to "generic anime" for awhile. It was so bland and unfitting.

I always preferred Castlevania's art style to be a bit more, I don't know, I guess "gritty". For SOTN I felt it was an interesting take and a unique departure for the series, so I wouldn't bash it there, but its continued used after that just always felt flat and uninspired to me. I remember reading how the move to "typical anime" was to try to appeal to a younger market with the DS games. I kind of think that's silly, and just wish they wouldn't worry about things like that.

Yeah, it just seemed like a silly move. I'm glad they realised it was pretty dumb and tried something different with Order of Ecclesia.
