As many people here know, I work 6 days a week, and on the days I work I usually don't get home until about 6-6:30 PM, so they're full days! Sunday is usually the only day I have off during the week, though I have tomorrow too because of the holiday.
So my question is this: What exactly is it that people don't understand about the fact that during my small amounts of time off, I basically just want to be left the f*** alone? I don't consider myself to be anti-social, but seriously, sometimes I just want to be left to my own devices, and not be out somewhere.

On a more serious note, I do understand the feeling. Often I'll get roped into going out somewhere because I don't want to sound mean or distant, though.

I hear ya, man. Like yourself, I too don't consider myself an antisocial person, but in my time away from work I feel pretty much the same way. Definitely the effect of working the graveyard shift, as pretty much as soon as I walk in the door after getting home I just want to crash, watch movies for a few hours and sleep it all off.

Totally agree with you Bob. I think with a lot of people who don't understand that desire to just relax and zone out are people who haven't grown out of the college-age 'party for the hell of it' attitude.

Yea, sometimes chillin' by yourself is better than hanging out with your friends.
People who don't understand that just need to try it.

Thank you for that. I'd hand it out to my family but I doubt they'd bother to read it.

Maybe some people are just a holes? ;D
Seriously though, I've gone through the same thing before. I was on this 12 hour rotating shift, so by the time the weekend rolled around, I was spent and just wanted to chill out (on my weekends off, that is. I worked every other weekend). But that didn't stop some people from calling me up constantly wanting me to do stuff.
It came to a head when I had gotten off of work on a Friday morning and had just got to sleep when my phone rang. I picked it up and it was this guy who wanted me to come over and hang out, and I kept on telling him that I was trying to sleep ... so I hung up on him and turned my phone off.
Well, he whined to his wife that I was ignoring him so when I woke up I had a nasty e mail message about it. I pretty much told her that she didn't know what the frack she was talking about, and maybe if her husband wasn't such an inconsiderate douche and let me get back to sleep, I wouldn't have hung up on him ...
One of the many reasons I no longer talk to the guy.

Hmm, first thing that comes to mind... All I want is a Pepsi. No! You're on drugs!!!!!!!!!!! That's why this should be CM Punk's entrance music. Anyway, I guess people just think they are being nice to you. Society has taught them that "alone = bad" in any situation, so they think they are doing you a favor.

I hate that. I just want to chill. Watch some football or a movie. And some asshole is always trying to drag me to a nightclub.
Yes a small room stuffed with 1000 people while some dickhead DJ plays some shitty musics and the drinks cost the same price as KFC family meal. Not how I like to relax.

I hear you Bob, sometimes, I don't mind if friends visit, so long as they just want to chill and watch a movie or something... but I just don't feel like going out or doing a lot.

Wow, amazed at the lack of a Leave The Memories Alone reference.
Anyway, there is nothing wrong with wanting some you time.

Alone time does indeed rule, but with me, I can be extremely mopey, and it's better to mope to my friends than just mope to myself and get myself down. I know that that sounds quite emo of me, but I'm really not that sad of a person. Sometimes I favour hanging with close friends more than being alone though, the sort of close friends that you can have deep conversations with and just enjoy other's presence without having to go absolutely crazy with things such as going out and drinking and whatnot.
