I like to be alone but too much time alone drives me up a wall.

Probably my favorite song that references wanting to be left alone:

I definitely understand. At times like the present, when I've had to move back home with my folks and sister, I relish when all of them leave and the house is mine for a few hours, even if it means I do housework/cooking prep for a few days instead of going to the gym or out to do something.
But there have also been plenty of times when I had my own place where I overdid it, too, and was in retrospect thankful that I got dragged out.
So generally, I like alone/quiet time. I'm a reader. I like to watch movies without people talking over them or walking past the damn TV or asking me shit. But it's also kind of easy to overdo the alone time.
So I hear ya.

Yeah, I feel you.
Sometimes there's those days where you just want to relax, do your own thing and be left alone. Yet when people try to drag you to do something and you decline, they label you as anti-social. Pisses me off.
I simply tell them to just f*** off. Maybe tomorrow.

Totally agree with you Bob. I think with a lot of people who don't understand that desire to just relax and zone out are people who haven't grown out of the college-age 'party for the hell of it' attitude. This.

I never understand it either. I work full time and go to school full time and my one day off is Sunday (like you). However, it always ends up booked because people want to hang out and yadda yadda. I love having time to myself, watching Netflix Watch Instantly or just reading, but nooooo my friends/girlfriend need attention. Ugh.

As many people here know, I work 6 days a week, and on the days I work I usually don't get home until about 6-6:30 PM, so they're full days! Sunday is usually the only day I have off during the week, though I have tomorrow too because of the holiday. So my question is this: What exactly is it that people don't understand about the fact that during my small amounts of time off, I basically just want to be left the f*** alone? I don't consider myself to be anti-social, but seriously, sometimes I just want to be left to my own devices, and not be out somewhere. It's a part of the human brain that doesn't always switch over when activated. "I've only got this time to myself. I'd prefer to just kick back by myself today, get in a little me time?" WHAT THEY HEAR: "I want to go on a twelve mile hike across the badlands, repaint the dilapidated houses in the downtown area and, time permitting: go parasailing cause I've got about eight hours of free time just burning a hole in my pocket!" It's a common thing. I've dealt with a LOT of people like that. Patience, caring, and an activity book with a 60 crayon box of crayons is usually enough to get you that free time you need.

Time off is always very valuable, I work to live and a lot of that living is doing stuff I want to do myself. I enjoy my alone time, gives me a chance to do the things I want to do be it watch films no one else wants to see, video games, chilling out, painting models.
Obviously this can clash with those who want to party all night long or do socially things, but yeah I fully understand the chill out and relax on your own mentality and I am all for it.

That's a great article. I'll be forwarding it to many friends and family as well. I wish I would have read that article before dating an extrovert for 7 years. If I live another day without hearing the phrase, "But you NEVER want to go out with my friends." I'll die content.

I read somewhere that humans are by nature social, but I'm a kind of person that people from elementary to junior high usually would say is really quiet. But that's in school where you are pretty much forced to be around other kids and feel like it is important to fit in.

It probably has a lot to do with their schedule. If theirs isn't as hectic as yours they just simply don't get it. They assume you have the same energy and get-go as they do and you're just being "anti-social". It's a load of crap, and it's happened to me many times. It drives me up the wall too.
