I'm always interested in different genres and I found some Gothic music compilations so I gave them a try. I ended up absolutely loving them, and started appreciating female vocalist for the first time ever. I pretty much hated every female vocalist that came anywhere close to rock before this. These are the bands I liked. The 69 Eyes After Forever Beseech Flowing Tears Gathering Lacuna Coil(awesome) London After Midnight(very good) Myriads Nightwish The Rasmus Sentenced Therion Trail of Tears Within Temptation (really really liked this band) All I can say is WOW. Never before have I considered using the word art to describe a song. As you can see I was shocked and blown away. I definitely want a lot more of this music. So can anyone here recommend some great bands/songs/albums? I know Gothic music goes into many different genres so feel free to post anything even remotely related. WC always delivers, so thanks in advance.

I was just listening to Within Temptation and Nightwish. I LOVE those bands!! Their lead singers are hot too. I already said that in a different topic but oh well I said it again.

I recommend Type O Negative - the album Bloody Kisses in particular (The title track, "Bloody Kisses: A Death In The Family," is probably the best song I have ever heard).
Also check out: Paradise Lost (The song "Blood of Another" is great if you're into Type O Negative), Sisters of Mercy, The Mission U.K.
Faith & The Muse albums are a worthwhile investment. You'll like them if you're sincere about enjoying female vocals.
Some stuff by Switchblade Symphony is great.
Bauhaus gets a lot of credit (the song "Bella Lagousi's Dead" is practically an anthem)
While not technically gothic music, some bands which have gothic undertones (visual / sonic) and/or find mass appreciation from goths are Nine Inch Nails, old school Marilyn Manson, and Stabbing Westward.

I'll have to try these bands out sometimes. I like moody music.

Christian Death is really hit-or-miss, but their good material is among some of the best in the genre.
I find that I can only listen to a few songs per band until I get bored, but I take exception when it comes to TON and Faith & The Muse. Those are two fantastic acts.

The Rasmus is a Gothic band?! Nope. I didn't make the album, the one song on it wasn't bad though.

Some other good, lesser well known gothic bands are bands like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Mortiis, amongst others. Sometimes they seem to have some Doom Metal influences as well. Its not my cup of tea since i prefer more.... sinister forms of music but still decent nonetheless.

It's sort of funny that you (understandably) classified Paradise Lost as a 'lesser known' band: although the are indeed relatively unknown in North America and the native country of England, they are HUGE rock stars in Greece and Italy.

You are correct, i did use the term "lesser known" being that i live in the states. And unless your bands name is Metallica, Slipknot, Slayer, Megadeth, or Pantera then most people tend to have never heard of any other metal band(Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, AC/DC) are another exception.
As for more sinister styles i enjoy black metal/death metal. Although im a fan of all music in general.
