Shane Helms, better known to WWE fans as The Hurricane, is doing his part to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Earlier today, the North Carolina native visited the Charlotte Coliseum, which is now serving as a temporary shelter for many displaced victims of the storm.
After returning home from his visit, Helms spent some time with WWE.com to talk about what he saw at the Coliseum.
“The victims’ spirits were shockingly a lot higher than I expected,” said Helms. “They were all very grateful to have survived the storm, and now they are being provided with warm food, clothing and first aid.”
While Helms admits that he was surprised to see such high spirits, he was even more shocked at the reception he got when he walked in the door.
“It was really great to see the kind of positive effect I could have for these people,” claimed Helms. “I was able to put smiles on faces of people that lost everything they owned. It’s an unbelievable feeling to be able to affect people in that way.”
In a continued effort to bring happiness to the victims’ lives, the World Tag Team Champion stayed until every autograph was signed. “It was the least I could do for them,” said Helms. “I’m just so happy I could put smiles on their faces.”
While Helms is doing his part, he also urges all WWE fans to do whatever they can to help those in need.
“WWE is doing their part through Americares, and I’m trying to do my part,” said Helms. “Funds are always appreciated, but if you can’t afford to give money, look around your home. People probably have things they no longer use or need that can help some of the people that lost everything, whether it’s extra clothes, food or water.”
Helms, who donates much of his free time to several different charitable organizations, wants to make it clear that his efforts towards helping the victims of Katrina is in no way tied to his WWE persona. According to Helms, “this has nothing to do with me being The Hurricane on WWE TV. It’s just me being a person. It’s times like these that people need to help people that need it.”

whoa, Shane helms. No Gregory references, that's interesting. I thought that was also part of his real name.
This is good to read after reading the Urban legends thread, and a couple people said "proof that all wrestlers are sleezebags or something".
