6 in NPD sales for august. yes, a game for the freaking playstation 2 placed number 6 in august 2009. www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=25227here's the sadder part, it beat out wolfenstein for the xbox 360 AND dissidia final fantasy. I'm just amazed this actually happened.

thwak, one problem with your numbers: Madden came out on 8/14. Where Wolfenstein has no excuse (it was released 4 days later with zero hoopla), Dissidia wasn't released until the 25th. That only left it 1 week to beat a game that had been out on markets for 11 days prior.
Once September's numbers roll in, we'll see if Dissidia is really more popular than Madden.

You're right. If there were more PSP's sold, it would've been higher. But obviously, Sony has some issues selling their machines that aren't ~10 years old.

Well, how many people still own a PS2 and not a 360 or PS3?
It's not hard to believe these people would keep buying the version for the system they still own.

Once September's numbers roll in, we'll see if Dissidia is really more popular than Madden. It won't be. PSP games historically don't sell THAT well in the US and well, it's dat Madden.

I'm not surprised. There is still somewhat of a casual gamer market and Madden leads into that well.

Why would Dissida be expected to sell well? It's a fighting game involving characters from the late 80s/early 1990s from games that most Americans didn't play until the games were too dated to play. I mean, I think it sounds cool and I would probably get it if I had a PSP, but I don't really expect to do that well.

i still have a ps2 but not a newer system. I won't buy the new Madden. I know it will pretty much be Madden 2004 with new rosters and a new feature that I will never use because it will make the game less fun and more complicated. I'm sure this year its "Enter a Morkat Kombat fatality code while a pass is in the air to increase your chances of getting an interception." The last Madden I bought was 2006 and I felt ripped off. I will never buy one of these games again, at least until I get a new system. Even when I do buy a new system I will buy exactly one year of Madden and that's ot. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me, um, don't get fooled again.

Well, it was likely the characters from VII onwards and the franchise name that helped it do as well as it did.

I suspect THIS is the final year of NFL on PS2.
