So, I've been catching up on a ton of releases from this past year that have either just come out, or I just missed out on earlier in the year. Reviewing is something I've wanted to do on here for awhile now but I just never got around to it...so now I guess I am.
Basically I'm gonna try to review at least one album a day. They're not all necessarily gonna be recent releases...they could be from this year, or they could be several years old. I'll just pretty much be reviewing whatever I happen to be listening to at any given time.
I will say this...you probably shouldn't expect a whole lot of negative reviews. I tend to have pretty broad tastes and can see a whole lot of music in a pretty good light. There will still be some, but yeah.
Also, if you guys have any requests for stuff you want me to review, by all means, request away. I'd be happy to give my thoughts on stuff I don't normally listen to, or even stuff I already do and just haven't gotten around to yet.
And now, for the first review! Hooray!:

Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3
Released: September 8th, 2009
All I can say is...damn. This album is pretty much f***ing incredible. It doesn't tread
that much new ground or anything, but it does what it does very well...and that is kicking
SO MUCH ASS. It's such a solid record.
Honestly, I can't think of any tracks that are particularly weak. They're not all legendary,
but every track is at least good. Hell, this is the first time I've ever been able
to tolerate Rihanna, really. That's a hell of an accomplishment. My least favourite tracks here
are probably "Run This Town", "Empire State of Mind", and "Venus vs. Mars". None of them are
bad, though.
The production is top-notch stuff in pretty much every song. I'm most fond of the tracks that
Kanye produced...but I tend to be a huge fan of his production anyway. Swizz Beatz did some pretty
amazing work on "On to the Next One" though. That song is f***ing sick. I love it.
Lyrically, Jay is definitely on his game here, not that I expected any less. An example of probably
my favourite verse from the entire album, from the song "Thank You":
"I was gonna kill a couple rappers
But they did it to themselves
I was gon' do it with the flow
But they did it with their sales
I was gon' 9/11 'em, but they didn't need the help
And they did a good job, them boys is talented as hell
'Cause not only did they brick, they put a building up as well
They ran a plane into that building, and when that building fell
Ran to the crash site with no masks and inhaled
Toxins deep inside their lungs until both of them was filled
Blew a cloud out like a L into a jar then took a smell
Cuz they heard that second hand smoke kills
N****s thought they was ill found out they was ILL
And it's like you knew exactly how I wanted you to feel"
That verse is sick as hell. I love it.
All in all, I think the only really negative thing I have to say about this album is that
"Young Forever" isn't that strong of a closer. I can understand going out on a more chill note,
but it just doesn't feel like a closer at all. Just my opinion, though.
All in all, this is one of the best releases of the year. I f***ing loved it.
