I'll also accept eminem, I didn't realize the marshal mathers LP came out in 2000.
also the issue with the yahoo story is that it's going by billboard charts which don't count music downloads.

High School Musical.
Hear me out. Pop music is only about what the kids like, right? It's not about the quality of the music, but rather how the act speaks for and to the generation in question, it celerbrates their sexual awakening, so called. So, High School Musical. You may think it sucks, but just think about what your ancestors thought of Rock and Roll.

We're all in this together... *shudder*

Uh, musical act? Let's see, a country-western opera that chronicles the life of Buddy Hackett featuring actors dressed like antelopes.

Chalk another for 'Muse'.
No other band or artist in my opinion has been consistently great when it came to albums and live shows over the decade.

Muse or Coldplay.
Pop wise Justin Timberlake or Kanye.

1)1980: bruce springstein (I disagree, I think def leppard is a better fit) 2) 1990: nirvana 1) Apparently you or your teacher never heard of Michael Jackson. Look him up. 2) I'd say the Backstreet Boys owned the 90's *blegh*. Though, NWA has a good argument against them, however. As for this decade's top musical act? It pains me to say this, but, if you are being truthful to the topic, it's not even close. . . Britney Spears. I can't believe her name hasn't been mentioned ONCE in this thread. C'mon people, be a little unbiased here. Look at her discography from this decade. She has at least 10 legit #1 hits. Her worst selling album was literally a few thousand short of a million (in the US). Anyway, if you want to go with man most responsible for #1 hits, it'd be Timbaland. His finger prints are behind many of the top hits of this decade.

His finger prints are behind many of the top hits of this decade. It might have been overshadowed by my Kanye rant but I mentioned Britney earlier. It came to me when someone chose the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC for popularizing cheesy pop music again. But really, the Backstreet Boys, even though they started the whole thing, just became a fad and N*SYNC was just Justin Timberlake and a couple other guys. Though I probably would choose Timberlake as a close runner-up to Britney.

I was first thinking U2, as they've had a huge decade, but I think they would be more likely to be on the short list in the 90's than the 00's

Hmmmmm I'd probably say, as much as it pains me, Eminem or Britney. And for your choice for the 80s, um, see below.
