Saw isn't bad but like horror movie franchises before it, it has gotten old. In Saw's case though it got old fast because they came out with one once a year. They might have done better if they had slowed down a little and built up more anticipation.

I will hate you if you f'ed up my enjoyment of this movie when I see it Tuesday. This thread has nothing to do with spoilers. I haven't seen any TV advertising for this, nor have I seen much print advertising. All the talk about this movie has been on the internet. How many people out of the general populace knew that a) there even was a Saw 6 b) that it opened this weekend and c) would have gone to see it had a) and b) been satisfied. I wouldn't tapdance on the franchise's grave just yet until next weekend's numbers come out. Saw has never had great legs and just because it's Halloween next week doesn't mean it will grow great ones now. That said it will still make a profit like I said earlier. The bad thing about this for the studios is this is the first major sign of fatigue that the series has had.

Saw has a story? I thought the whole plot was "The Black Scorpion's voice wants you to cherish life, by learning how much pain sucks." Why hasn't Maffew of Botchamania used this idea?

Jesus, most series take 20+ years to get that many movies made.

I'm more surprised about Astro Boy bombing. Thought that would've done a lot better. It'll probably have a huge opening weekend in Japan. Astro Boy is still competing with Where the Wild Things Are for the kids. A good bit of kids will see that movie two weekends in a row. But yeah, it'll likely have a really great opening weekend in Japan. As for Saw... they'll do a few more and then probably reboot as soon as they can.

So how about Vampire's Assistant bombing? A move that shocked no one.

14 Million is still a lot, especially considering the budget. With a budget of $11 million, it's already made back its money in 3 days. Not really, for movies you have to take into account that, after advertising and distribution costs are factored in, it generally takes a movie grossing twice it's budget before it finishes in the black. Assuming Saw is no different, and it really shouldn't be, then it's not made back it's total costs yet. It probably will in another week or two though.

I'm more surprised about Astro Boy bombing. Thought that would've done a lot better. Honestly, I didn't know Astro Boy was even out until I clicked the above link. I knew there was a movie coming but but I saw literally no advertising between TV and the Internet. All the advertising has been lately was for Saw and Paranormal Activity.

I saw maybe one trailer for Astro Boy, so it bombing is no surprise.
As for Vampires Assitant...well, honestly, I thought it looked kinda cool, but couldn't really figure out what the target audience was supposed to be.

Does anyone actually know what Cirque du Freak is? I have never seen a book with that title and I have read plenty of books.

Does anyone actually know what Cirque du Freak is? I have never seen a book with that title and I have read plenty of books. It is a book series intended for children 5th grade on up. My mother runs a library in an elementary and has put that age restriction on those books. It gets her kids really excited to read them when they get the chance to the point where are always checked out. They are solid books and I recommend folks to check them out. Here the wiki link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Saga_of_Darren_ShanCirque Du Freak is the first in the 12 book series.

They already are working on the next one - it was announced a few months ago. This amount doesn't mean much. Sure it would have been nice to be number one, but they still have next week plus the rest of the world plus DVD sales, etc....for the amount of money it costs to make one and the money they'll get back? They'll keep doing them.
I like the series a lot, but it really is becoming a pale shadow of what it once was.
