What Annoyed Me About Kizarny....

As we all know, WWE hyped up this man for a few weeks with some vignettes. His character was suppose to be a carnival freak who talked in "izs" with every word(which got really annoying). Needless to say, the gimmick HAD potential, possibly as a face, but definately as a heel in my book. I feel the way they introduced him was mishandled badly. Since they made him so language challenged, we could'nt tell if he was suppose to be a villian or a fan favorite. Now, that part I could've easily overlooked if executed right.

Here's the real problem I had. He REALLY was a freak and DID participate in carnivals. Hell, here's a segment to show you....



Now, I remember WWE officials saying the most popular wrestlers are themselves with the volume turned up, well how in the hell did they gloss over him? Just his unusual look alone should've got him noticed, anything beyond that could've really opened doors for this freak of nature. Here's a good promo from him(in WWC) to show what the E missed out on....



Hell, I could've watched Smackdown/RAW/ECW right now just to see his crazy antics if the WWE him used this way.

Meh, I wanted to like the guy because I am always a fan of dark gimmicks. His debut match with MVP sucked badly though. After that I lost interest. I dont think he should have been released, but probably retooled. I haven't seen much of his stuff but that match showed me nothing impressive.

His theme was terrible too, as were the vignettes.

His debut match was a problem, however, they should'nt have kept him off air and then released him. They should've did more with him, especially his gimmick. And the other poster is right, WWE is so bent on catering to kids, they have to neuter him. He would've done alot better off in the Attitude Era, maybe somewhere in the Undertaker/Kane mix. IMO he should have been a heel on ECW. Play up the freak aspect, how he does things like breathe fire and swallow swords so he has a high pain tolerance and can go toe to toe with guys like Dreamer in Extreme Rules matches.

It just seemed to me like they had no clue to book him. I didnt expect him to debut as a face, for one. Even from the crappy vignettes I could tell he had more potential as a heel. Then he just randomly showed up with his terrible, Doinklike theme and generic entrance.

Obviously someone wasn't too high on him for whatever reason, and threw him out there to fail.

Isn't that the reason given to the rejection of that vignette Domino filmed?

They made him a joke, he was supoused to be a Freak! and they made something like a circus clown, is like if Raven's Gimmick is that he love Crows and is fan of birds!

He seemed to put almost no emotion into his character. When I heard about a number of supposedly great vignettes featuring a wacky carnival freak, I expected to see a guy who grinned maniacally into the camera and sounded like Snoop Dogg on a helium rush.

Instead, what I saw was some guy who was obviously reading his lines off a cue card with no emotion whatsoever.

"I am Kiz-ZAR-ny. Rizzle fizzle gizzle dizzle, mizzle frizzle dizzle bagizzle. I am Kiz-ZAR-ny."

The fact is, a promo given in "carny" only tells me that Kizarny is a circus worker. It doesn't tell me if he's heel or face or why the hell I should give a damn. And no noticeable amount of fans are going to try and decipher the code to figure it out either.

Vignettes are supposed to give you an insight into the basis of the character, their heel/face alignment and their goals. All I got from Kizarny was "speaks funny". Even Stuttering Matt Morgan was at least a confirmed heel.

Had he been hired maybe 3-4 months later, I think he could have shown up on ECW with no problem. His debut match surprised me because it did look really rough, and he had been given plenty of dark matches. It seems in the recent months that ECW has continued to shape into a development ground more than it ever did, at least with more people getting show time and a chance to get over.

The other thing is, as well as being rough, Kizarny's debut match was all about MVP and his losing streak, not Kizarny. The spotlight was not on the debuting wrestler and that's always going to hurt things.

Everyone was going over MVP at the time, including local jobbers, and so Kizarny going over in the match meant even LESS than if he had just wailed on a local jobber himself. At least if he had been given a squash match, he could have shown off his spots better.

Crizaapy character.

The guy was serviceable in the ring, which doesn't put him anywhere above the other thousand guys itching to get on WWE TV. So what does that leave him? With his gimmick/character, which would need to be great to get him over.

Swagger a great mat technician. So his lack of character right off the bat could be put to the side temporarily.

Same with Morrison - 2nd rope innovator supreme. Ziggler can sell like crazy.

Kizarny . . ..really wasn't terrible at all, but nothing special.

For me they might as well have had several months of promos with a guy speaking Chinese. Very, very slow Chinese. I didn't care enough to figure out what he was saying, and drawing it out made it sound like he didn't know himself.

I had to really pay attention, and whenever I did it was something generic like "Come to the show" that wasn't worth the effort, so I just stopped bothering.

That's a shame too, because that was a really good gimmick. Same with Kizarny. Like, the match wasn't that good, but there are so many things to take into consideration. He wasn't an established heel or babyface, so he came out to the ring not interacting with the crowd, just wandering around, being the character that he was. And he was facing MVP, who was a heel, but was starting to get sympathy after the losing streak. I really think the gimmick could have been made into something good if used right.

What I would have loved to see was him be with Edge. That one vingette he did with Vickie Guerrero, they could have Kizarny hanging around Edge and Vickie a lot and Edge saying, yeah, he's a friend of mine from home, we've known each other since we were kids (which was a shoot). So, they could have Kizarny do goofy things with Vickie, but let's say Edge is having problems, Kizarny can come out with a number of different instruments, and brutalize the person who he's fighting and show how sick and twisted he is, and Edge can say Vickie, yeah, we should keep him around us. Or something like that.
