Really from listening to the crowd reactions it was pretty 60-40 for Orton.
And it isn't like this was in the north east where this happens to Cena all the time. This was all the way out in California where he usually always gets a good reaction.
Maybe the lack of gimmick is catching up to Cena?

Support for Orton grew during the match. It was a bit leaning in Cena's favor in the early parts, by the end they were booing everything he did.

And, of course, there was the usual distinct difference in voice pitch between those who were chanting for Orton and those for Cena, which is always amusing to hear.

The word's out about Cena now.
The man is nothing more than an ass-kissing company man and even the kids are smart enough to see through Cena's BS now and it's a pity too cause the man could of been the corner stone of the WWE.
I guess this is what happens when you make a mark like Cena the flag bearer of the WWE cause Austin, Hogan and Rock were smart about there characters when they were on top unlike him.
Bottom line is Cena's done.

He's been overwhelmingly cheered at every single live event I've ever been to. The fans still love the hell out of him, that's not changing anytime soon.

It takes two to tango: if Cena gets booed over Orton, Orton's at fault too. At this point, though, there's such a strong backlash against Cena that he'll be booed by a portion of the audience no matter what does.

Its weird - he only seems to get boo'd during PPV matches this days. On RAW he always gets immense pops and cheered throughout, at least to my mind.

Honestly, at this point I think the only folks who are still booing Cena are just doing it because it's fun. Back in 2005, sure, I hated him just as much as everyone else and it was quite justified because he sucked - now, though, I'd easily put him among the top ring workers in the company and when he's got good material he can be damn fine on the mic.

To be fair, I think Orton could have punted a puppy into the crowd and got a pop last night.

I keep on hearing this mentality lately, and honestly I don't get why there's such a big backlash against people booing Cena. Of course I respect him as a hardworking guy who's the face of the company, and I get that he's not being shoved down audiences' throats as badly as he was in 05-06. But that doesn't mean people HAVE to like him; maybe some people are simply still bored by the white-meat babyface character he still has and find other wrestlers like Orton more interesting. Maybe its because, even if he's not a bad wrestler per se, they don't like the particular style of his matches. Even if he's not terrible, his type of persona is still not going to be enthralling to everybody. I'm not saying that people don't have the right to cheer for him if he appeals to them. But by the same token, people have the right to reject him if he doesn't do anything for them. It's different tastes, and people have the right to express them.

But by the same token, people have the right to reject him if he doesn't do anything for them. It's different tastes, and people have the right to express them. I agree with this. I've never been someone who booed Cena just for the hell of it, but if I was at a live show, I'd cheer most opponents over him. I have no obligation to cheer him because of his work ethic. I don't dislike him as much as I did when he was pushed quite so heavily, but his character is still as dull and flat as they come, I don't care much for his in-ring work, and I generally can't stand the sort of material he is given for promos and although he is charismatic and can work a mic, his delivery is often quite obnoxious. So his opponent has to pretty much be a black hole of suck for me to cheer for Cena. That's just my personal taste. That doesn't mean I don't respect the guy, I do, but that doesn't mean I should have to love every single thing the guy does to prove that or I'm a hater stuck in 2005 mentality for kicks. It's entirely possible that a person dislike John Cena without being a mindless trend-following sheep. I just watched Orton vs. Cena and I'd have to agree that Orton was the crowd favourite.

It was a very pro heel crowd. Punk got a lot of cheers as well. Jericho/Show were clearly the fan favorites in their match too.

I'm pretty sure I heard Ziggler being the favorite over Mysterio as well.

I wonder why it was a pro heel crowd though. I mean that usually only happens in the north east unless there are a lot of indy promotions in LA that I don't know about. I'd figured there wouldn't be considering it is probably hella expensive to run a show in LA.
Does PWG do shows in LA? I was thinking they were more southern California for some reason.
BTW I have nothing against Cena but I do think he is heading towards a huge heel turn in the next three years. Right now he just doesn't have a gimmick. The lines he is given for his promos are horrible. I think if they would just let him cut loose like they did during the thuganomics period he would be one of the very very best in wrestling right now. But no. They give him John Deere shirts to wear. That is about the most unurban thing I can think of.

What I like about Cena getting booed is that once people start booing, the cheers have to get louder. Then once the cheers get louder, the boos have to get louder. And so on, and so on, and so on....It makes the crowd really get into the match. But it did seem like the boos were winning last night. Not sure what they can do about it at this point. Would turning him heel really do any good? I doubt people that cheer for heels would start cheering for Cena, and do they really just want to make kids cry?

Cena gets huge pops on TV, but gets mixed reactions-boos on PPV's. Really from listening to the crowd reactions it was pretty 60-40 for Orton. It seemed that way last night.
