So there are a lot of guys who have passed through the title scene briefly that proved not to be up to par with the WWE's standard. Hell, even Ludvig Borga was considered for a WWE title run. However, some main eventers just stink regardless of how long they are at the top.
While, I'll have to think about the absolute worst, currently Batista seems like a pretty bad one. Not only is he constantly injured, but his face character does not even make sense, crying about title shots and at least in the past refusing others a chance at the title. While that part of it is largely the result of bad booking, part of the blame has to go on Big Dave himself. For instance, a lot of his matches seem difficult to watch and even his feud with the Undertaker, which is the best program he has had in years was pretty overated (though the matches could be pretty fun).

Was Bobby in the title scene long enough to count? What a terrible overpush....

It was only for a few years, but I never bought JBL as a main eventer.

Batista cuz I just find nothing interesting about him or Orton cuz every time he talks he just sounds so robotic.

I'd say three years as a top guy is considered long-term, I'll put in a vote for Sid.

Khali. I like the big guy but, God, once his feud with Taker was done, his run in the main event should have been as well.

Can we include Hogan during the Mr. America run?

I would say Diesel, since I'm not much of a fan of Kevin Nash. But, he did put on some good matches with Bret Hart.
Batista is a good nomination though.

Ya know, there've been some crap guys in the main event scene in wrestling, but I'm hard pressed to come up with a guy who's been in the main event scene for five years who sucks as much as Randy Orton.

I'm glad Yokozuna lost the WWF championship when he did. If he had more title reigns with the rate he was going, the mid-90s WWF(the way it actually happened) would look like a goldmine.

IMO Randy Orton.
I just don't see anything great in him anymore. He's become painfully dull, and he just doesn't do anything that really gets people to notice. He also looks like crap these days (sans the abs).

Batista. Seriously, I haven't enjoyed him since he went to SmackDown in 2005

punk - 2 terrible title reigns and I just can't take him as a legit main eventer. Very overrated on the mic.
Rey - If Eddie was alive he would have never been champ. IMO.
I agree with the poster who said Sid. Uninteresting title reigns.

This will probably have people calling for my blood but outside the feud with Austin I never personally had much interest in Bret Hart.

Batista. He's just not interesting and despite his size, he's never been booked believably aside from the beginning of Evolution. It doesn't help that he looks like he's 50 years old and gets injured as often as he does. IMO, he's never been anything more than enhancement talent. Batista would've been Prince Albert had he been around in the late 90s.
If we're talking the entire business, I'd also include Jeff Jarrett, who I think is talented, but not main event.
I dont think theres one that even comes close to Batista in terms of "long-term" and I've sat here for at least 5 minutes looking up title histories etc. and trying to think of one worse. There's tons of short-term bad main eventers, and I wouldn't rank Orton or Cena highly in a list of bests, but they've at least had their moments. I can probably count Batista's moments on one hand.
