Scary as hell. But I thought the screw up was as much Taker's fault as anyone else. I don't see how Snuka (while holding a bulky camera mind you) was supposed to catch Taker from that angle. I think Snuka was supposed to be considerably closer to the ring. Taker put some stank on that jump. He should learn to keep himself level so he doesn't run the risk of dropping like an anchor at a 90 degree angle like he did at WM. Maybe he's too top-heavy. But wasn't he supposed to be set up into position by Shawn? I remember him standing next to him before he was dragged into his position. So taking positioning into consideration, wouldn't that mean Shawn's to blame?

I'm pretty sure most people's reaction backstage, at least after the initial shock of a nasty landing was over, was that it's all just a part of the business and what happens, happens. Nobody was to blame, or blamed, because it was a risky spot.

It may have not got Snuka released, but it didn't do him any favors to mess that up. true

Is there something I am not getting here? Sim Snuka was the "cameraman" that Shawn pushed in the way of Taker's dive to the outside durng their match at Mania.

Is it wrong that until I saw people pointing it out that I didn't even notice anything was off about it?

That was a very close moment. How Undertaker remained healthy after that I would like to know.

After rewatching it to get a better idea of what's going on, it seemed like the spot was doomed to fail before he even jumped.
Taker needed to be crashing into someone that was close to the ring on the outside. For it to have worked with Shawn taking Snuka into Taker's path, Snuka would have needed to be right up near the ring already but off to the side where HBK could then push/pull him into the right spot.

That was pretty damn scary to watch. I thought he literally killed himself. Reminds of when Lita hit that suicide dive outside the ring on Trish and she landed on her head, which caused her neck to literally bend backwards. I thought she died. It amazes me how these people don't leave with a broken neck or worse. I still can't watch Lita's landing anymore. It's probably the most painful looking thing I've seen in wrestling, and I'm including Sid's leg.

I flinched, winced, cringed and shuddered.
Scared the crap out of me.
I always feared that his suicide dive could go wrong at some point but that didn't stop the shock and disbelief when it actually happened.

I remember calling the WWF hot line during survivor series when i was like 8 and it was either Undertaker or Brett hart that you could talk to. I wanted to talk to Undertaker so bad but I ended up getting Brett... so I'm an 8 year old kid, naturally I get pissed. I go "Can you ask the Undertaker something for me? Is he really dead?" I wish I could remember exactly how Brett answered but I don't.

If i remember correctly on those hotlines they would make the wrestlers ramble on so you would get a giant phonebill. I hung up on Bret once, because i think he became famous for rambling on and on. Felt kinda weird to hang up on a wrestler at the time...

hahahah totally man!
I wish I could remember Bretts reaction but I was just so young, I was also pressed for time because
1.) This all had to happen between matches during a pay-per-view and WWF was my LIFE
2.) I had lied to my mom, saying I was going to go call Grandma and tell her how excited I was for Thanksgiving dinner lol
so needless to say once she realized I was talking to a wrestler she made me hang up immediately

I remember watching it live on PPV and I was genuinely concerned for him when he didn't get right back up. So were the other 5 people I watched it with. He stayed down for quite a while and those replays made it seem even worse. I think it really played into the match, HBK wanted to win and a Count Out win is still a win
