So, I get it: Snuka botched on catching him.
Did any of the good sheets, like Meltzer's, report on how close it came to ruining the match/ending 'Taker's career -- or worse? How freaked out was the backstage area?
Or is this a case where it looked far worse than it was?

I remember watching it live on PPV and I was genuinely concerned for him when he didn't get right back up.
So were the other 5 people I watched it with. He stayed down for quite a while and those replays made it seem even worse.

All i know is that, watching it live, I thought Taker had legitimately broken his neck.

It may have not got Snuka released, but it didn't do him any favors to mess that up.

No idea, but him and HBK did a fantastic job of selling their injuries (HBK looked like he broke his hand at one point). Love the HBK praying for the countout haha.

From what I remember reading, despite how bad it looked, 'Taker didn't get hurt too badly. He was a little shaken up, but I think that was about it.

As I said in the ECW thread, I want to see what happen backstage as Taker was in the air and after he landed. I want to see Vince's, Steph's everyones reactions.

I wish they could have made it even better, and sold it in a way that looked like Shawn was gonna HAVE TO win. Give the X symbol or whatever.

That was pretty damn scary to watch. I thought he literally killed himself.
Reminds of when Lita hit that suicide dive outside the ring on Trish and she landed on her head, which caused her neck to literally bend backwards. I thought she died.
It amazes me how these people don't leave with a broken neck or worse.

I thought he was done. But in a weird way, the botch, IMO, worked. It had the same basic intention as what they planned (Taker misses dive, almost gets counted out), it just looked much uglier.

Personally, I thought he was through. There's really no way to brace yourself falling straight down on the top of your head, especially if you expected to be caught. It was tough to watch the replays because I KNEW we had just managed to avert a tragedy.

Scary as hell. But I thought the screw up was as much Taker's fault as anyone else.
I don't see how Snuka (while holding a bulky camera mind you) was supposed to catch Taker from that angle.

I actually dropped the food I was holding when I saw Taker land. I figured he had a concussion at the very least and a broken neck wouldn't have been much of a stretch to guess.
I thought the Undertaker was going to end his own WM streak himself.

Yeah it's on Taker no doubt there. Snuka was only there to break his fall i guess (lol what a job). But the way Taker jumped he would've landed poorly no matter what really.

I think Snuka was supposed to be considerably closer to the ring. Taker put some stank on that jump. He should learn to keep himself level so he doesn't run the risk of dropping like an anchor at a 90 degree angle like he did at WM. Maybe he's too top-heavy.

I was very scared. I thought for sure The Undertaker was seriously hurt. My party went dead silent after that spot.

WWE has tried to "trick" me too many times. After Jericho hit Keibler with the chair I didn't believe anything.
If he really was hurt it would be a case of boy who cried wolf to me.

Seeing it again on that highlight show on NBC, it looked like Snuka actually saved his life. It looked to me like he leaned in and pushed Taker about a half/second before he was going to land right on his head.
